    Shower pump sizing

Hi, About to install a shower pump and was wondering what pressure people would recommend. We're not looking for a massively powerful shower, just a decent flow through a standard sized head. We have two showers, but it's very unlikely they'll be used at the same time. We have a 50 gal...

    Stopping smoke alarms going off!

Ok, so how do all you jobbing plumbers stop smoke alarms going off when you're soldering? Doing some work in the airing cupboard, directly under a smoke alarm - the smoke alarm works, and it's VERY loud  Took some pipework downstairs to solder up and the downstairs alarm and the...

Distance between holes in cold water cistern

Hi, I need to drill a hole in my water cistern for the cold feed to a shower pump. It would save me a lot of work if I could drill it fairly close to an existing outlet, around 3 inches away diagonally. Do you think this is ok, or will this weaken the tank - it's a poly tank... As the...

Insulation on bottom of DHW cylinder

Hi, I'm going to install my new DHW cylinder in a couple of days. I've noticed the new cylinder has the foam insulation around the ring of the base, i.e. the cylinder sits on the foam. The old cylinder sits directly on the copper, which is correct? Just wondering if I should trim away the...

    DHW cylinder directly on floor

Hi, Bit of a strange question. Is it ok to place a DHW cylinder directly onto a chipboard floor? The floor will be double thickness at 44mm. All the cylinders I can recall seeing have been mounted on two strips of wood. I have good reason for wanting to do this - too long to go into...

    Removing old cable clips

Hi, Anybody got a genius idea for easy removal of cable clips? We have moved into a property that was previously inhabited by the clinically Sky Television obsessed We have cables running all over the house. There is a cable into every room, two in some rooms and five coming into the...

Is an extractor fan in cloakroom notifiable?

I want a timed fan. Would your suggestion not mean I either 1. Have to have the switched live unfused or 2. Have the lights inoperable when the FCU is switched off? Cheers

Is an extractor fan in cloakroom notifiable?

[/url] Nice looking bit of kit, but way too large an extraction rate for my 7 x 3 cloakroom! I've resigned myself to wiring in an unswitched FCU and a triple pole isolator. No problem really as the ceiling is down so I have plenty of access to cables... Thanks

Is an extractor fan in cloakroom notifiable?

No, I'll use an isolator, was just hoping not to have to install an FCU as well. It's not much of an issue either way really, just a bit neater without. Cheers
