Tiles falling off - new build

Thanks for the reply. I have since spoken to NHBC and they very much are interested, especially as this issue affects more than one property. I think I can safely say you have never been in this situation. It's been a constant stream of initial poor workmanship followed by a never ending drip...

Tiles falling off - new build

Just a quick update on this.... Thanks for all the advice, the tiles are now back on - no evidence of tanking but at least the tiles are actually stuck to the wall so I guess it should last long enough until we decide to replace ourselves. Anyway, in the mean time it's come to light that...

Tiles falling off - new build

This is what they appear to have used/will be using - any good? Good enough? The date on the lid worries me as it has a 1yr shelf life. Sorry for all the questions but this job has to be 100% right.

Tiles falling off - new build

Just to update this thread... The tiles have all now been removed, none were attached particularly well. The tilers have prepared the surface - no idea what they have used but could probably find out. This is how it looks now - anything I should be worried about? I notice I can still see where...

Tiles falling off - new build

Thanks for the reply. I'll reply in more detail soon, but just to remind you - this is a new build house. If they have built it like this I would imagine NHBC would be interested, as would all the owners of the other houses in the development, which have likely been built the same way. I have...

Tiles falling off - new build

To be fair it was the plumber that said PVA and he's not the tiler, nor was the tiler there at the time. I'll speak to the tiler and ask what they plan to use. Is 'tanking' necessary? And if so, what is it :) Thanks!

Tiles falling off - new build

Thanks for all the replies. We have agreed with the builder that all of the tiles will be removed, the wall will be sealed (there has been talk of PVA) and new tiles fitted. Can you explain 'tanking' please? Not something I'm familiar with. I'll update this thread with the outcome as I have...

Laminate floor damage - builder blaming us!

It was about 10 days. You don't really see it from 5/6ft up when you're walking on it, it was only noticed when I sat on the stairs by it so I was lower down. A bit of googling about how the floors are laid suggests it was caused by a tapping block slipping, which would make perfect sense. We've...

Tiles falling off - new build

Hi, Just wanted to get an idea of what could have caused this so we know how to proceed with the builder. We've had a leak in our shower (new build, 1 year old), showing up as a damp patch on the 'other' side of the wall from the shower enclosure. Today the builders have come out, removed a tile...

Laminate floor damage - builder blaming us!

Hi We moved in a year ago but the flooring was replaced only a couple of weeks ago due to other problems. We 100% did not cause this damage. It's not so much about the cost of the panel, but the labour involved in ripping the rest of the floor up to get to it. Cheers, Ted

Laminate floor damage - builder blaming us!

Hi All, Long story short we're in a new build property just over a year old and have had issues with the flooring. It has recently been replaced and we have noticed some damage on the end of a plank. The builder is saying that as we didn't report it immediately they are not liable and that we...

    External destratification pump

It's been a while and I'm just revisiting this idea. I've attached a picture of the unvented cylinder (please ignore all the mess, it's a work in progress!). The red pipe is the 22mm hot outlet from the top of the cylinder and the dotted part goes off to the rest of the house. The arrow points...

    New build hot water problem

I have. At least the ones wh aren't complete ******s! I would hope the house builders would be informing any others (yeah right). Now its going to get colder I'm sure a lot of people in similar houses on the estate will find out that two of their radiators don't work as the feed and return are...

    New build hot water problem

Just to close this one off, yes it was wired wrongly and if I hadn't been forceful it would have been left like that. I expect all of the similar houses on the estate will have a boiler that runs all the time the hot water is on. That's those that actually know they have gas water heating and...

    New build hot water problem

Update... A different heating engineer is here and he seems to understand exactly what the issue is. Watch this space!

    New build hot water problem

Thanks for the reply. The tank stat would appear to be working as the HW valve does open and close if I turn the stat up and down past the 'click'. I'm pretty sure we have a fundamental wiring issue going on that's causing constant demand for heat even when the HW thermostat is open and the...

    New build hot water problem

Hi, Recently moved into a new build and I'm pretty certain there's a problem with the CH/HW that the installers are denying. It's a 'S Plan Plus' system - Ideal boiler with unvented cylinder, dual heating zones and frost thermostat for the boiler in the attached garage. I've had to replace a...

    External destratification pump

Unfortunately not, just a single horizontal immersion heater half way up.

Just to close this thread off - I replaced the head on the valve and all is now good. Thanks!

    External destratification pump

Hi Guys, This may be a non starter but it was an idea that popped into my mind so thought I'd ask the knowledegable pople on here! I have a unvented hot water cylinder heated primarily by gas boiler but it also has an electric immersion heater. I also have solar PV panels and plenty of spare...
