Need a primer / undercoat to suit various wood types

Hoping for some advice. I have recently had a new porch door frame added in with frosted glass side pane, oak door etc. The door is simple enough as I'm using osmo on that but the frame and everything else around the door and glass etc I need to prime. Its been made of a combination of wood...

    Catnic for Bifold installation?

It is going to just be supporting the roof for an extension part of the house so no floor above it (not yet anyway but thats for a good few years yet if at all). If this fitter is correct they should already have considered what you said above though right? I will ask about the hanging of...

    Will a combi be ok?

Thanks. In terms of not being as energy efficient what are we talking? Like an extra £50 a year in bills or more / less.

    Catnic for Bifold installation?

Which is better in this scenario? Do I need to contact council then before getting this done / giving them the go ahead? So how do I know if what they are proposing is a good option then?

    Catnic for Bifold installation?

Thanks both. Very helpful and glad to hear it's an ok way to do it. They are FENSA registered but for completeness I should insist that they do building regs too? Then im completely covered?

    Will a combi be ok?

Moved into a new house and currently have an ancient 50 year plus standard boiler with a tank on the landing and one in the loft. The pressure to the shower is pathetic as its gravity fed and all in all it needs replacing asap. My question is, will a combi be ok? House is currently a 3 bed...

    Catnic for Bifold installation?

Thanks. What is the difference between a catnic and an RSJ? This is the first time I'll have building regs involved in anything. Do I have to do this before the work is started? Or should any decent company offer to include this for me? Appreciate the cost will be added to quote.

    Catnic for Bifold installation?

Looking to join together existing sliding doors and separate door with a set of 3.5m bi folds. This means taking out a 300mm width wall between them. I assumed an RSJ would have to go in but have had one quote who said they could install a catnic to this as they have standard calcs for what...

Best Euro Cylinder Lock on the market?

Having always been an Avocet ABS fan I assumed these were still the best however I have spoken to 3 different locksmiths now who have all said they have had issues with these post installation. As a result 2 don't fit them at all anymore due to these issues. Personally mine have always been ok...

Mining Bell Pit in Garden - Query

Yep. They said not an issue. Only becomes one if the house has ever suffered with subsidence (which this hasn't) or does so in the future when it then falls into the house with subsidence issue. The presence of a mine shaft in the garden wasnt an issue in itself.

Mining Bell Pit in Garden - Query

Sorry for the delayed reply. Thank you for your help on this. I'm comfortable with it now from various sources, yourself and of course the coal authority (and various docs). Completely get why people get nervous about these things but having looked into it in detail in this instance all seems...

Mining Bell Pit in Garden - Query

I managed to get hold of the report from the Coal Board which was really helpful (also on a side note when calling them for extra questions they were great. More than happy to help and say they get questions like this all the time). In summary it was capped circa 50 years ago, with a "slab...

Mining Bell Pit in Garden - Query

This is what I dont know. We got shown the paper work at the time but I didnt get chance to read it in detail as we were viewing. The owners themselves pointed in the garden and said it's there but unsure on the cavity. I guess the paper work may state this? Unless it just shows the entrance?

Mining Bell Pit in Garden - Query

Thanks for your reply. I'll try find that out re what it was filled with. Is there a good and a bad way for it to be filled? Assume concrete is the best option. I would say it's around 12 foot from the house, maybe a bit more. Is that good or bad? They do have all the documentation on it so...

Mining Bell Pit in Garden - Query

Apologies if this is not in the right place, but does anyone have any experience of old mining works near a property? We live in an area that has plenty of old mine shafts etc (you can see on the map checker multiple red X's) and have found a house which we may be interested in but it has an...

Painting / Staining - Hand Rail / Decking (but not on the floor)

Hi all, I have a patio area outside that is raised up with stairs to access it, the flooring is all indian sandstone but the retaining wall was built using breeze blocks and then faced over with wooden decking boards. The overall finish is good but I am now thinking a year on about staining /...

Cracks internally and question over brickwork outside

I'm sure these weren't visible before as I'm pretty OCD about things. But could they be there over time and due to weather conditions have now just become more visible? Just trying to understand the reasoning in them now appearing. I read that cracking through bricks themselves was more...

Cracks internally and question over brickwork outside

Just to add to this I have noticed more cracks appearing through the brickwork outside. What causes this to happen? Naturally have concerns again given these are appearing. Few photos for examples. Any advice greatly appreciated.
