    Built-in Wardrobes with Automatic Lighting

Thanks. So if I got one that is good up to 240V then I won't need to get any kind of ELV relay unit? Something like this: http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/reed-switches/2897799/ That makes it a lot easier. I guess the only thing this would depend on now is whether the magnet can be far enough...

    Built-in Wardrobes with Automatic Lighting

Thanks for the info. I see what you mean with the magnetic switch. Something like this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NC-NO-Door-Window-Contact-Magnetic-Reed-Sensor-Switch-Alarm-Distance-10-20mm-/331152643760 This gives a distance of 10-20mm so I guess it will only work if the distance to the...

    Built-in Wardrobes with Automatic Lighting

Sorry I forgot to mention a key point - the doors are sliding doors with the middle door being in front of the two side doors like this:

    Built-in Wardrobes with Automatic Lighting

Hi All So I am in the process of installing built-in wardrobes and one thing I had roughly planned to do was to install lights to come on whenever a door was opened. I have ordered the lights already which are just under cabinet kitchen lights which I plan to have under each shelf but my...

Hot Water Does Not Heat Up Unless Central Heating Is On

Thanks for the info. As an update, today I checked the pumps head as per the instruction manual. The central heating one was spinning no problem but the water pump was jammed. I had to really turn it quite hard with a screwdriver and eventually got it moving. When I turned the power on to...

Hot Water Does Not Heat Up Unless Central Heating Is On

Thanks, I have emailed them but unfortunately they don't stock it anymore because of this: http://www.allaboutpumps.co.uk/new-european-union-legislation/ Given this, perhaps it isn't the best idea to replace like for like?

Hot Water Does Not Heat Up Unless Central Heating Is On

Okay so as suggested it seems like the Hot Water pump is knackered. My next question is what should it be replaced with? As suggested above should I opt for a different pump setup or change it for same pump model? The benefit of using the same pump is I think I could give it a go myself as the...

Hot Water Does Not Heat Up Unless Central Heating Is On

That's exactly the pump that is installed. The previous plumber seemed to suggest that this type of pump was uncommon. He had to look up the instructions for it and thought the problem could have been the pump.

Hot Water Does Not Heat Up Unless Central Heating Is On

Thanks for the info. I have taken a photo. I have had a further thought. The radiators used to come on when the water was heating but now the water only comes on when the central heating is switched on. Before this problem started I reckon that it didn't matter whether the water or the CH...

Hot Water Does Not Heat Up Unless Central Heating Is On

Can you elaborate at all on where I would find the check valve? Is this something in the pump? I searched the manual for that pump but couldn't see anything relating to a check valve. Thanks.

Hot Water Does Not Heat Up Unless Central Heating Is On

I'll try and be as succinct as possible but apologies in advance for all the text! Here is the order of events: 1. In the beginning…whenever our water was being heated up the radiators always came on a bit. I assumed this was normal. 2. In June, our boiler started to not heat water all...

Required Wiring for an Electric Cooker and Induction Hob?

Thanks EFLImpudence. I am actually having the fuse box changed over for a modern consumer unit (by a sparky), I am just trying to keep costs down by doing as much prep/research as possible.

Required Wiring for an Electric Cooker and Induction Hob?

That's great news. So either way, one cable will suffice with either a 32A or 40A fuse. Can I also ask about the cable, again, I have read lots of information but the general consensus seems to be that 6mm cable is needed. Is this correct? If I am able to find the original supply which...

Required Wiring for an Electric Cooker and Induction Hob?

Thanks for your very prompt reply PrenticeBoyofDerry. I must admit, I do not fully understand why there is this calculation. Surely if the hob and oven was on at full power, it would be drawing approx 55A so shouldn't the cable and fuse be able to accommodate this or is it assumed that the...

Required Wiring for an Electric Cooker and Induction Hob?

Hi Everyone I am looking to re-model my kitchen including an Induction Hob and Electric Oven (currently we have gas). Now I am hoping that behind my cooker I will find an old electrical feed to the fuse box which was [once upon a time] used for an electric cooker. I think this because in my...
