Which first - floor tiles or WC?

When starting a completely new bathroom installation, does it make more sense to lay floor tiles first and fix the toilet on top, or secure the toilet to the plywood floor and tile around it? Thanks!

Damp rising through tiled kitchen floor

But the survey didn't suggest replacing the damp proof course, rather lowering the height of the external ground level so that it didn't breach the DPC. I had planned to do this next spring. There is no way we will take up the tiles at this stage. Do you think lowering the outside ground...

Damp rising through tiled kitchen floor

Thanks for your reply. To answer your questions: The floor was very wet underneath the old lino before the tiles were fitted, but the old dishwasher had a bad leak, so my assumption had been that this was the cause. The kitchen has been fitted about three weeks, we have only just noticed...

Damp rising through tiled kitchen floor

Wonder if anyone can help with a question: We recently had a new kitchen installed, including a newly laid tile floor. The kitchen is at the back of the house, at a lower level than the other rooms, and has a cement floor beneath the tiles. Just recently damp seems to be rising through...

    Pressure Problem - 22m to 15mm supply a cause?

Thanks for your help. The stop tap in street is definitely fully open - will check for ****e in tap under floorboards! So a 22m supply pipe reducing to 15mm wouldn't in itself reduce the pressure to the house? (Sorry if this is a dumb question...) Cheers

    Pressure Problem - 22m to 15mm supply a cause?

We have just replaced our old combi-boiler with a new condensing model, and the plumber noted that we don't have great water pressure (but was just as bad before we replaced the boiler). For example, the electric shower in our 2nd bathroom provides only a scalding dribble if at the same time...

    Moving hot and cold pipes

Hi, The hot and cold pipes coming out of our combi boiler stick out of the dining room wall a long way before going through the ceiling to feed bathroom upstairs. Is there any reason why I can't turn the water off at the stopcock, cut these pipes and bury them further into the plaster...

Mains Water Supply - 15mm Pipe Causing Pressure Problem??

Just as bad, so the new combi is not the problem as I see it

Mains Water Supply - 15mm Pipe Causing Pressure Problem??

We have just replaced our old combi-boiler with a new condensing model, and the plumber noted that we don't have great water pressure. For example, the electric shower in our 2nd bathroom provides only a scalding dribble if another tap is opened, or the washing machine is filling. The...

    Potterton Performa 24i HE

Does anyone have experience of this boiler? Is it any good? Have what seems a reasonable quote to have this fitted this week. I see that www.boilers.org.uk rates it as a "B" rather than an "A" energy efficiency rating - would this make a lot of difference? Thanks, Steve.

Bath Screen for Shower Mounted Centrally...?

Does anyone know if glass bath screens are available for a shower mounted centrally over a double-ended bath? In my head I am imagining a concertina-style screen that folds flat against the back wall (either side of the taps) when not in use, then expands out to form a diamond shape, closing...

Installing Shower - Final Stages - Help Appreciated!

Fitted new switch today - all working fine now! Previous switch was wired OK, but I think some of the cable shielding was damaged going into the box- guess this was the problem. Thanks again for everyone's help. SH.

Installing Shower - Final Stages - Help Appreciated!

Oh: one other question - as I said, switch made a pretty big flash and bang before flipping the MCB. Can I assume I should fit a new switch rather than reuse that one....? Cheers.

Installing Shower - Final Stages - Help Appreciated!

Will check but 99% certain that's how I did it (except switch was marked feed rather than supply - I'm sure semantics). Thanks for everyone's help

Installing Shower - Final Stages - Help Appreciated!

Thanks for your help, and no (as an amateur) I didn't carry out the level of testing you indicated (have no tools to measure insulation resistance or earth continuity), although I did as much research as I could, followed detailed instructions to the letter and checked and rechecked everything I...

Installing Shower - Final Stages - Help Appreciated!

I am in the final stages of installing a new 10.5kW electric shower in our top bathrooom. I have installed the shower, cable goes into a 50A ceiling-mounted isolator switch, then down two floors, into new 30mA RCD, then into spare 40A MCB on existing consumer unit. Two questions/issues: 1...
