    Cleaning up a tarmac driveway

Been in our house about a year and a half now and I want to try and sort out the tarmac driveway. I did try (poor job) with a jet wash a while back. There is a lot of dirt which has got embedded from where the cars have been driven round the estate which has been a building site the whole time...

    Veritas R8 Improvement

Sorry, what a rubbish post!! I guess I’m looking for anything extra... from remote keyfobs to a full app system. I can’t make use of the Veritas system installed I guess the wiring I need is there to get me started for the main board..

    Veritas R8 Improvement

I have a Veritas R8 alarm system that was installed as part of our new build house. It’s a Veritas R8 system with 4 PIRs and 1 remote keypad located at the front door. Are there any options to upgrade this system? Whether they be texecom products or otherwise, but ideally I’d rather not need...

    Plasterboard and stringer

I’m making the assumption that the wallpaper will adhere to the caulking?

    Plasterboard and stringer

Yeah sure! I didn’t want to use expanding foam yet, some of the cracking would be too narrow and I didn’t want to open it up too much. I’m going to paper this wall on Sunday and see how it holds up. Worse case I have to put a quadrant over it.

    Plasterboard and stringer

There is nothing behind the board above the stringer. Looks like there should have been from the pic.... but it must be in the right place.

That was going to be my last resort after I wallpapered...

    Plasterboard and stringer

Ahhh I already cut some of the loose stuff out, thought best if I’m spending £50 wallpapering over it. Got some caulk but might need to put some filler on the big bits first. There is quite a bit of movement though as the plasterboard isn’t really supported other than on the vertical studs...

    Plasterboard and stringer

I’m about to start decorating the wall to the left of our stairs. It’s a 2 year old house so most of the drying/settling is finished, and as expected there is some cracking between the plasterboard and the stringer. I wouldn’t normally hesitate to fill and sand, however it appear that there is...

    Finishing wallpaper in a corner

Apologies, I’m doing a feature wall and actually finishing in the corner. Yeah, I’ll probably just use an artists brush with white paint to touch in any areas where I scores the plaster. Cheers!

    Finishing wallpaper in a corner

So I recently did some wallpapering in one of our spare rooms and it went pretty well, however one think seemed harder than I remember from years ago.... When trimming in the internal corners I couldn’t get it straight and I scored the plaster which is now visible and a few small tears in the...

    Paving to damp course height

Okay that would work. Would still need to cut out some more depth to accommodate the pipe but there is a 100mm gap to the house already

    Paving to damp course height

Thanks for the reply! The haunching is angled so the paving is a little higher than it looks. French drains with pipes look quite large, would a linear drain be better? Like 100mm wide? I guess the edging blocks could be taken out and a deeper channel made for the drain, and then reinstall the...

    Paving to damp course height

So the damp course is level with the top of the airbrick, which puts it 80mm ish above the paving. I doubt it would be cost effective to get 50m2 of paving relaid. Did you mean a 4foot lower strip?

    Paving to damp course height

In your opinion what would be the remedial action?

    Paving to damp course height

Sort of I guess, but yes it doesn’t fill up with rainwater. This runs to the end of the patio

    Paving to damp course height

I have to say, that sounds like a very bad and unfortunate series of events. I don’t have any issues, no pooling water, no damp, and the guttering etc all works fine. I thought about installing a very small French drain along the house if I needed to appease a surveyor.

    Paving to damp course height

So our landscaper laid our paving about 18 months ago in our back garden. He replaced the paving installed by the house builder which is level with the driveway where you enter the garden from the side. There are no steps, and with the exception of the fall the garden is 1 level. The paving is...

    Installing outside lights

Thanks Taylortwocities, So I’m fully aware now that I don’t have the correct equipment for to test everything I should, and that’s my mistake in doing the work. Like you said, and I tried to infer it in an earlier post, I have asked for small work before and been told to do it myself or told...

    Installing outside lights

Hi flameport, thanks for your contribution. I don’t see asking someone to inspect it and certify as futile. I’ve installed 2 cables and 2 lights, very accessible and very simple. If an electrician won’t do it I’ll rip it out and pay them to do it. I’m trying to ascertain what is the correct...
