OK thanks for your responses people. I checked the heater, TCO and solenoid on both old and new showers for integrity with multi meter. All fine. Checked compression fitting and water isolation, definitely water coming through. This all leads me to the pull cord, which is at least 9 years old...

Yep, all through an RCD on the main fuse box. All power in house was turned off just to make sure!

I've just bought and installed a new Triton Enrich shower to replace an old Triton which had packed in.
