Tiles on plasterboard/ dot & dab

True but why should OP care about that? Lol Who cares? Should he spend the time and money getting a plasterer in to skim the walls to make life easier for some top hat who wants to rip them off when he's long gone? I always have to uncover ****ty workmanship in jobs as well, you see it all the...

Tiles on plasterboard/ dot & dab

Lol, have you given OP a quote for ripping all his tiles off and starting again once he's done all the work on his bathroom or something? If you go by that logic of what it would be like to rip it all out ( why would you want to ? ) you'd literally get nothing done around your house.

Tiles on plasterboard/ dot & dab

Why would that matter though? Any wall gets f***ed when tiles come off regardless. the only time a wall wouldn't get ruined is if the tiles weren't put on properly in the first place and didn't adhere properly.

Tiles on plasterboard/ dot & dab

Hi mate, all sounds fine. Just tile straight onto the plasterboard. Literally no point skimming it if you plan to tile it, and if it was skimmed you would have to wait a couple days then prime the fresh plaster before tiling. You also know that with a sheet of plasterboard that it is true and...

Dot and Dab? Tile fell off

You can't really dot and dab tiles like that, I have seen it done when I've been working in older houses through the years but it just isn't the right way to do it I'm afraid. The reason a tiling trowel is notched is so that the adhesive is combed through the tile/wall with a ridge like effect...

    Refurbish/Replace kitchen units

Hi arbu, don't listen to that bell**d, bit of a pointless comment really. If you like them then you should do anything you can to preserve them. They may not be to everyone's taste but there's nothing wrong with them. I'm a carpenter and I'd recommend getting a chippy in just to sort out any of...

    Door closes by itself

Yes adjusting the hinges can solve this problem, as long as the frame isn't drastically out it should work! Just be sure to adjust the hinges accordingly (either in or out) to the correct level. When you hold a level to the frame you should see what I mean

    Door closes by itself

Hi skyhawker, I'm a carpenter and hang doors all the time, and this is quite a common issue when hanging doors onto door linings that are out of square, and that are not plumb. Check which side of the frame the door is actually hung on with a 6ft spirit level and I expect you'll find that it...

    Grout depth OK?

I wouldn't particularly say it's wrong, more of a preference, and in his professional opinion probably think it looks better. Which I get where he's coming from. it's not an issue if you wanted to grout ontop the existing grout to build the level up.

Yeah I'll transfer the money over tonight or tomorrow morning..

Jesus, a month? Yeah I hate having to send reminders but just gotta do it sometimes.. I know a lot of other chippys that just try to specify cash purely because of situations like this. A lot of customers seem to have a strange mindset that just because its a bank transfer that it buys them time...

Yeah I'll transfer the money over tonight or tomorrow morning..

Bull***t. Im usually very patient with customers but when I've floated a job and down about £400 on materials, the Blazay attitude towards actually paying for the work that they are admittedly very happy with becomes very irritating. I might try that next week when I get a big load of groceries...

    Mahogany grout ..... Cream tiles

I've used coloured grout on a lot of different jobs and kitchens and really prefer it to big standard white, I feel it looks better and gives the room much more of an individual touch. As long as you suit it to the tile/worktop then go for it! Worst comes to worst and you don't like it, then...

    Laminate floor over existing vinyl?.

Yeah afraid you can't do it, the texture and surface of vinyl does not lend it self at all as an underlay material, the laminiate boards will slide around and the joints will open up Inside 24 hours

    Aluminium mosaic tiles

Greetings everyone, I'm a chippy and just fitted a kitchen and worktops etc and customer also asked me to do the tiling last minute, went well and really like the aluminium brushed tile which really gives an eyepatching look in kitchen, but it seems as though they're pretty rare ( Metal tiles...

    Decking Questions

Yes use timber posts and definitely use joist hangers ( screws alone will not hold over time and is just rough as hell ) use exterior decking screws. And not making it level is a terrible terrible idea. There is absolutely no reason to not set joists out dead level, you do not need a water...

Jack Rafters; do they have to line up where they meet Hip ?

Can't see how it would be a problem, as Long as it's only slightly out? Will get lost by the time felt and battens are on. And I take it your mates not a chippy? Lol schoolboy error

    Tiling on a wooden floor.

Hi alex, You never want to tile straight over wooden floorboards as they expand and contract through time and temperature change, which would cause pretty much all of the grout joints to crack, and the tile adhesive will be disturbed, which would ultimately cause the adhesion to fail ( loose...
