Excess pressure in sealed CH system

Thanks for the reply. Yes, it was the vessel. It was still under guarantee so a new one was fitted, solving the problem. The faulty one was absolutely full of water indicating a leaking bladder.

Excess pressure in sealed CH system

After replacing a TRV on a radiator recently the normal running pressure of my sealed system has increased from approx 1.75bar to just under the pressure release value of 3 bar. In fact, the pressure exceeds 3 bar slightly and water is lost and the cool system pressure is then sits at just under...

Strange clicking from circulating pump/three-way valve

After playing with the upper gate valve I found the internals of the valve to be very loose. Closing in lets the valve flap about more in the flow and the noise increased. Forcing the valve fully open made the noise dissappear. I'll be getting the plumber back to replace the defective valve...

RCD trips when switching lights off

Tried new RCD but no change. The noise from switching, whether a light switch or an appliance should not in normal circumstances induce an imbalance that would trip an RCD. Given all the tests detailed above, the only remaining possible cause of the problem has to be an over sensitivity to...

RCD trips when switching lights off

Change of RCD made no difference. If it is noise, and this really must be the only explanation left, how can I stop this noise from causing an imbalance? Cheers

RCD trips when switching lights off

With nothing plugged in at all, the lights can, intermittently, take out the fully unloaded RCD.

RCD trips when switching lights off

To reiterate, ALL ring mains and lighting circuits have been confirmed seperate and confrim to current IEE regs. All wiring that is not buried under plaster has been inspected. As I said, we've meggar'd all the circuits and from the lights to the ring mains. At 500V the IR is 300-600MOhms...

Strange clicking from circulating pump/three-way valve

The valve and head have been replaced as this was were I thought the noise was coming from originally. Trouble is the sound travels all along the copper and pinpointing it is difficult. Since the boiler is outside and the pump, valve and head are inside it has to be one of the latter 3 things...

Strange clicking from circulating pump/three-way valve

But if it is a ball of solder, why does the noise stop when CH is switched on but comes back as soon as HW only selected?

RCD trips when switching lights off

Thanks for so many quick responses. Let me address them... Only the 3 ring mains are protected by the house rcd. Only the 3 neutrals from the ring mains go into the protected RCD nuetral block, same with the lives. I've checked this a dozen times! I've also tried the appliances in the...

Strange clicking from circulating pump/three-way valve

I guess as its been summer since the system went in, the route round the rads hasn't been used in earnest and there is nowhere for the ball to get trapped in the HW loop. Maybe I'll hang fire until next spring and see what happens. Cheers.

RCD trips when switching lights off

I have a very recent RCD protected split load consumer unit. The RCD side protects our 3 ring mains only. I live in a rural area with overhead lines and I am on PME. The problems I am about to describe are all intermittent and we can go several days without problems, then encounter 6 or more...

Strange clicking from circulating pump/three-way valve

I had a new oil fired HW and CH system installed about 4 months ago and from day 1 there has been an annoying clicking/light tapping sound coming from the region around the pump/three way valve when the boiler is providing HW only. The sound is tinny and does stop for 10-20 seconds from time to...
