    Yes thanks for your replies

    Pme or earth rod

Yes I agree that's why I said you would need an adequate earth rod that could take the fault current and as you said low enough resistance which is hard thanks

    Pme or earth rod

Ok but my original point was if you did do this earth rod that pipe work as well on the loss of the neutral conductor and loss of the one would this Tt system not act like a secondary earth and prevent this pipe work from becoming live ?? Thanks

    Pme or earth rod

Yes I see what your saying if the pipe goes between two buildings then regardless the pme system will entering the outbuilding so not a lot of point bonding to an earth rod

    Pme or earth rod

Well on a particular job I have an outbuilding detached from the house but probably about a 1m from house and it contains the gas meter which will be bonded to the house met so when I put a fuse board in there for external power I would have to use the one earth system from the house and not an...

    Pme or earth rod

Well what I'm saying is say someone runs a pipe from the house into the outbuilding that is already bonded to the house met via the pme system in the loss of a neutral the pipe in the outbuilding would be in the same situation as the rest of the house extraneous parts so if it was you couldn't...

    Pme or earth rod

Have been thinking and the only other gain by using an earth rod at an outbuilding that had extraneous conductive parts eg a water pipe ran from the house in the event of the loss of a neutral conductor could the earth rod not be used as a protection against this and therefore you would have to...

    Is this set up okay?

As others have said you could never have an electric cooker in this circuit and as it is a 15 amp mcb this is telling me probably no rcd protection but the fuse protection is ok for this circuit someone obviously couldn't be bothered to take a new circuit back to the fuse board it's not...

    Pme or earth rod

Yes on the particular job I was first talking about I am taking a 10mm2 saw cable to an outbuilding so wouldn't be a problem but I understand your point it would be about weighing up cost and time on how you approached it

    Pme or earth rod

Completely agree with john this is why I posted this question my only worry would be the loss of the neutral conductor but an outbuilding has no difference to an outside socket or an extension lead being taken out of the equipotential zone and no one bats an eyelid at that as you have mentioned...

    Pme or earth rod

This seems to be a subject open to interpretation and everyone has their own views was just wondering if taking a supply in swa to an outbuilding and using an earth rod does it make a difference how you earth the sheath earth rod end at outbuilding or pme end at house personally can't see a...

    Pme or earth rod

Can I also just ask as you said an alternative to using an earth rod you could bond extraneous conductive parts could you bond them from the exported pme into the outbuilding or would this have to come from the met in the house thanks

    Pme or earth rod

Thanks for your replies you have summed up my thinking on this subject it was just bugging me why every time I read about an outbuilding I would see posts about using an earth rod instead of the house pme supply which I personally saw not a lot of gain as no one has come up with a specific...

    Pme or earth rod

Well exactly my point if putting an earth rod in is to stop this from happening how come we can have an outside socket off of the house ring surely this is exactly the same so why the big ho ha about earth rods to outbuildings ??

    Pme or earth rod

Right I have was looking at earlier posts from questions asked before about outbuildings and using an earth rod or the existing pme earth supply in a house. In a previous post someone put about if you lost the neutral in the road and someone was using an outside appliance with an earthed metal...
