I've just spoke to him on the phone told him I want the 16 plate or not too bother. He said that's fine and he will do it for the same price. Is £200 fair? I looked online think the plate is about £100 so £100 labour?

Had a new gas engineer out he replaced the filter but said it wasn't really blocked. He's going to fit a new plate heat exchanger. He's charging me £200 all told does this seem fair? He said he's fitting a 12 plate rather than a 16 plate to make it cheaper, is that ok?

This is all really helpful thankyou. If you say he needs to deal with the flow problem first then ideally the next gas engineer in your opinions should be changing which part? I'm guessing ill be paying for a plate heat exchanger what ever happens as that would work out best financially for him?

This may make absolutely no difference to diagnosing whether this was the plate heat exchanger or not but the last guy I had out said the plate heat exchanger was getting got so could not be scaled? Could be complete garbage but just a point I thought I'd make. GC number of boiler is 4731187

Ok thanks, last call out was 3 weeks ago and even in that time the flow on the hot taps, especially upstairs has got considerably worse. Just to reiterate, checking this filter is not something I can do myself no?

Cold flow is absolutely fine, hot downstairs is very weak and upstairs is a dribble but is to hot to touch. Sorry to sound stupid where and how would I check this filter?

Thanks for responding, no I do not have one of these? Is this worth doing to cure my problem or Isit better to just bite the bullet and have the plate heat exchanger changed for a new one?
