can topsoil be laid over hardcore an sand?

the decking wont cover the entire existing patio area, so the place where the planning office is likely to measure would be right next to the decking which is where the current patio is. by replacing it with topsoil i would be maintaining the current level. all i need to know is if the soil will...

can topsoil be laid over hardcore an sand?

it would be too ambiguous for them to try and measure to the original level, how would they know where it is? besides, all i'm planning to do is replace the patio brick and maintain the current level. its possible the people who put it in didn't take out soil and the patio now rests above it...

can topsoil be laid over hardcore an sand?

the posts would go through the new top soil, through the sand, through the hardcore, and eventually the soil thats underneath that. it will be an elevated deck, there is a limit of 30cm before you need planning permission.

can topsoil be laid over hardcore an sand?

if i take out the patio brick i need to be 30cm from the new level, if i replace with top soil I can maintain the old level, so my deck can be just as high.

can topsoil be laid over hardcore an sand?

I have a patio I'd like to remove in order to place decking. I don't want to lose out on height what with the 30cm limit, sO I'd like to replace the patio brick with top soil, I'd like to leave the patio bedding (hardcore and sand) where it is. Can I do this? Can around 6" of topsoil be laid on...

flush beam decking - joist spacing and post position

http://www.doityourself.com/stry/proper-spacing-for-floor-joists Normally, floor joists are spaced 16 inches apart oncenter. This means from the center of one uprightjoist to the center of the next. Given that 2x8s are actually 1-¾ inches wide, it works out to be 14-¼ inches between each joist...

flush beam decking - joist spacing and post position

So I'm going to be putting decking into the garden, attached to the house with a ledger board. 4x4 Posts concreted in, all softwood. I have a good handle on how everything will go in, I'm just not so clear on what joist size to use, how far apart to space the joists, and how many posts I will...

    screwing into ceiling joist

this particular room has an artex ceiling, cracks wouldnt show up as much. I do have cracks elsewhere though, and in one room (the room i had initially planned to hang the bag) the ceiling looks as though it's sloping, so that would explain it. do you think it may be wise to have it replastered...

    screwing into ceiling joist

i think the house is 1930's yes the plaster ripples above the black wood. I didn't so much chisel as just knocked it flat, it was very flaky. I did loads of hammering into the joists, is that bad? I used these mini joist hangers, went in a bit crap but it's steady.

    screwing into ceiling joist

I'm just about to add the brace, what are those lines there? it looks like plaster but it's on top of some black mat. I ant to chisel it away so I have a level floor, is that advisable?
