    Stripped thread

Thanks for the replies. I'll sort the lug hopefully by replacing. Why does this always happen after decorating, rather than showing up before when it's easy to sort.

    Stripped thread

Hi. I have been replacing the white sockets in the front room with antique brass. All went ok until the last one. Got the white front off and there were 4 cables in the back, so it looks a bit of a tight fit. Anyhow got it all to fit and when screwing the new socket on, it appears one side has...

    Light switch upside-down

Thanks for the help. To be honest it doesn't really bother me, it's SWMBO who's bothered. I'll swap the L wires this aft. I've got another 3 to change out, so at least I know what the issue is. I've been putting a small wire from the earth terminal on the switch to the earth on the back box, but...

Cheers mate. Sorry if I sound like I'm a bit dim. Will move wires. Why do BG make this so difficult.

    Light switch upside-down

I am changing my white plastic light switches to antique brass. I took one off, ensuring everything was labelled. On the old switch both com terminals were at the top, L1 and L2 bottom. On this new one (BG). One of the switches has com at top the other com at bottom. I wired as the old, live to...

    Bad smells

UU have been out and sorted it. It was roots from next doors bushes that had worked their way into drain. Must have been going on for ages. Anyhow roots cleared out, and drain running free. There are some more roots further down in other sides garden, but we can't locate cover. UU say it's 9 1/2...

    Bad smells

Thanks, will do. Still unsure why the smells would come up soil pipe, when problems seem to be in waste water drain, unless it's further down where soil and wastewater join (if they do). I've got an odd setup with bathroom drainage down Soil pipe, and kitchen drains to external drain and then...

    Bad smells

Pulled up 1 manhole cover that's not connected to soil pipe directly, no idea where that cover is, but the 1 I pulled up is for wastewater from kitchen sink, dishwasher etc. It's around 2/3 full of dirty stinking brown water.. Called United utilities, and as it's a shared drain on their plans...

    Bad smells

Ok. What would blockage cause smells if traps still have water in them. Wouldn't the new AAV stop air coming out. Sorry if I'm sounding thick....

    Bad smells

We have had a bad sewer snell in the kitchen and bathroom for a couple of months now. It tends to come and go. Just some history first ... Around 17yrs ago a mate did some bathroom work, but couldn't finish it, so I got a local plumber in. He thought it would be a good idea to lop off the...

    Removing old artex

My house has the living room ceiling, part of the front room staircase and porce artexed. I want to get rid of this, but wondered if it needs to be removed, or can it just be skimmed over. The porch artex is already peeling off. If it needs to be removed, am I resigned to scraping it off or is...

    Hoover vacuum cleaner hose

I have a Hoover Breeze Evo, and need the Small internal hose that connects the brush bar to the Main hose. I cannot seem to find anywhere that supplies this. Mine has a small hole in it, so suction is reduced. Suction is fine when just using the main hose. Model Number TH31 BO02001 Thanks

    Radiator cooling

Not sure, but this rad seems to cool much faster than the others, that are also set the same.

    Radiator cooling

One of the rads on my system, cools down much quicker than the other ones. When heating on and raising the temp, it's red hot, but once boiler starts to cycle, keeping temperature constant, this rad cools down, the others stay quite hot. The rad in question is the first on the loop. They all...

    Bathroom Smell

There is no outside pipework. The original stack was internal and boxed in. 1st plumber hacked it off under the bath, it did go from roof through bathroom and kitchen, to the external sewer. The plumber was never asked to cut it off
