Dishwasher - greasy residue around salt cap only

Recently after a wash cycle the dishes are perfect but if I remove the Salt cap it has a lot of grease around the underside. The grease isn't getting into the salt area. I have cleaned the drain filters (they were pretty clean anyway) and done a few wash cycles using dishwasher cleaner, but...

Hot water tap gives only warm water (combi boiler)

Our problem is that the bath and shower doesn't put out very hot water, especially in cold weather. We have a Baxi Combi 30 HE boiler. There is a control tap that seems to control the cold water going into the boiler, if I turn this tap off then no water flows to the sinks (either hot or cold...

Sink plughole has small hole inside drain pipe - is this normal?

Bathroom sink has a small hole about 5mm on the side of the drainpipe beneath the plughole. I checked the other sink in the ensuite, and it has a similar hole. This seems strange, I cant imagine why this hole would intentionally be there but it looks like it is there by design rather than...

    loose plaster behind skirting

I removed some skirting and about 1cm of plaster came off with the skirting along a 30cm strip. About 30 cm above there is a horizontal hairline crack and it is a bit hollow sounding when knocked between this line and the floor. Do I need to replaster the whole wall or can I just put in some...

How to remove ballast from LED tube fitting

Thanks guys, I managed to bypass the ballast last night as explained by connecting the two brown wires that were going in/out of it. Seems to work. I have no idea why this was necessary, I guess it reduces power consumption slightly at least.

How to remove ballast from LED tube fitting

The 3 photos show the wiring pretty much. Lets follow live on its path through the circuit. Wires come in from power cable and into terminal-block-1. Live goes into another terminal-block-2 and into the magnetic ballast. (brown wire) Then out of ballast and back into terminal-block-2 (brown...

How to remove ballast from LED tube fitting

OK having looked again at the photos, I think the blue wires are all already wired up correctly. I just need to put the two brown wires together, this bypasses the ballast. I just wanted to get a 'yep sounds right' before I go ahead.

How to remove ballast from LED tube fitting

I wish I could but there's plenty of wires and it is a bit beyond me. :( I've added two more photos. I can see the incoming wires (white sleeve) coming in from the power supply. These go into terminal block and then onto the starter/ballast. I guess I have to rewire that bit so it goes to the...

How to remove ballast from LED tube fitting

OK... so its not going to blow the bulb or fitting if I put those two brown wires (in the photo) together, right? The diagram on the ballast (see photo) suggests the top wire is live and the bottom one is neutral, so by connecting these wires I will be connecting L to N, not L to L, is this OK?

Thanks, can anyone advise if the rewiring I suggested is correct or will cause a problem?

Installing ducting from oven to outside

Roughly what would it cost to have a tradesman do this job? We have a cooker extraction fan hood, but it is not connected to outside so is a bit pointless. I want to install ducting so that it extracts the air to outside. For complication, there is a small room in between the kitchen and the...

How to remove ballast from LED tube fitting

I have changed a fluoro T8 tube bulb to LED. As first it did not work (flickering), but I removed the starter and it is now stable. I wonder if I should also remove the magnetic ballast? I guess this will use less power and increase longevity? If so, to bypass the ballast am I right in...

How to check if spotlights are AC or DC?

Thanks, they have separate light switches. I couldnt see very well what was going on with the bathroom spotlights.

How to check if spotlights are AC or DC?

I have emailed aurora and waiting a reply to see if there is a compatible LED bulb. Some further info: - none of the bulbs are directly over the bath or shower (there are two separate extractor fan + light units there) - The 'transformer' in the photo had a brother nearb, these are connected...
