Thanks again folks. Very useful info.

Replace 2-gang (NL/NL) light switch with N/L/L1/L2 switch

Thanks guys, Seems like it may be possible to retrofit then by coming down from the ceiling into the switches. While not a fun thing to do (I certainly wouldn't tackle it if I don't even know how to wire a switch!) but since I'll be doing some extension work on the house soon it might be worth...

Replace 2-gang (NL/NL) light switch with N/L/L1/L2 switch

Ugh, okay, just done some reading on it thanks to your post. That's disappointing! thanks for the info. Is it typical for UK lighting circuits not to have neutral?

Replace 2-gang (NL/NL) light switch with N/L/L1/L2 switch

Hi folks, I'm sure this is easy enough... I'm replacing a standard dual-light switch (in that there are 2 switches and 2 lights) with a Wifi switch (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B075JCN3YQ). The layout is different, with a N, L, L1 and L2, whereas the old switch is just N and L times 2...

You're in Essex and you get twitchy about coming to sunny Mottingham? hehe. I'd throw in food and a beer...! ;-)

I wouldn't be against that deano, although clearly if you did it yourself for money then you'd be liable. this way, I'm in the sheeeet. ;-) So, I thought I'd tinker and investigate more, and I am still a little confused about the wiring. You're rolling your eyes now, but I wanted to...

    Nest wiring

Thanks igneous. It's a fine line, I know, but I find it easier to learn from people with real life experience than from a manual. And in my professional life I'm more than happy to help someone for, say, 2hrs when it would otherwise have taken him 10hrs to work it out himself. F.

:D Aye, fair enough. I'll try to do a better job than the last guy. Many thanks again for your help. I'll try it in the morning and shout if I blow anything up.

Okay, how does this look? I disconnect the yellow going to the valve and wrap lots of tape around the end.

Okay, here's what I have upstairs. I've omitted the earth wires. I guess the DHW switched live/call for heat would go into the other valve (which I didn't include as it's not used). From your diagram, the brown wire from the valve seems to go to the DHW terminal (3) in the thermostat, but...

Oh jees. Ok. It seems like some of these random wires coming from the wall might be connecting to those zone valves then? I'll check out that box, see what it has to say. In the mean time I've asked more companies for quotes. Every day's a learning day.

Ah, gotcha. There are zone valves there (see pic). The pump water flow is in the DOWN direction (surprising) and the zone valves are after/below that. Does that make sense? The safety discharge is a lot of work though. It's been mentioned before, in the context of "I can't change...

Well spotted. :-) The red valve is where it stops, so I guess that was where the feed from the boiler went into the old (boiler-fed) tank. The same pipe goes into the pump for the central heating. They just cut that pipe and installed this daft electric jobby. The last guy in the house...

Guys, I know I'm not an expert and presumably you are, but believe me when I say the upstairs hot water tank is NOT served by the boiler. Presumably the wiring is still there from when it was, but that up there is an electric heater. No fewer than 3 plumbers/sparks have looked at that and said...

Thanks for the replies. I'm in SE9 and the only reply I got through Nest was £170. For that I might as well take a shot. The boiler doesn't do hot water - for some reason there's a big immersion tank upstairs for that. This does the rads only. Rob, do you go to SE? :-) Dean, I...

Folks, I'm close to working out how to replace my Danfoss CP15 with the Nest Heat Link, but the terminology I'm just not familiar with (layman). Hopefully 2 images show up in this post. http://support-assets.nest.com/images/tpzimages/comp-system-wiring-diagram.png...
