    Rusty window hinge

Ah yes. I see what you mean. Is it normal for water to collect in this area of the window or does this indicate a fault? Where can I get a replacement hinge and are they a standard size? Thanks for your help.

What rating MCB at source would benefit from a CU?

For my understanding, if I was coming off a 16amp MCB, then I would benefit from an additional CU? Thanks for your help.

    Electric to outdoor utility room

I am happy to come out of the ring in the house into a FCU and then from here outdoors with a SWA (2.5 or 4mm?). I would then add a CU in the utility of it meant that any overload/fault will be handled here, rather than trip the circuit in the house.

    Rusty window hinge

We rarely use this window. When I opened recently, I noticed this rust, broken screw head. Need to understand why this is rusted and how I fix this. I thought it may just need a new screw but the bit in the corner isnt pulling the window in and hence, there’s always a gap in the bottom right...

    Electric to outdoor utility room

The 2.5mm cable I was referring to was for the existing Ring Circuit in the house. I can take my supply in 4mm SWA if that's what you suggest? I thought you were going to say that this was woefully inadequate and I really need a new circuit from the CU in the house. That's promising. On...

    Screws for timber framing

These have flanges. In places, the screws need to be flush with the timber. Do I need to use a spade bit there? Wanted to check if I’m looking at the right thing. Thanks for your detailed (and graphic) response earlier.

    Filling cracks in ceiling

I've tackled these a number of times over the years and broadly used the following approaches, after some research: 1. paper plasterboard tape bedded in with easifill and then levelled off with further layers of easifill 2. gouged the crack with a screwdriver and then filled and levelled with...

    Screws for timber framing

It’s for the timber framing. I’ve noted the recommended length. I then have choices of brands, single/double thread, some that have no thread for some of the screw. Unsure on what is recommended for this type of usage. Also, I assume it’s drywall screws for the plasterboard fixing to the...

    Internal corners - plasterboard

The current wall is block but plasterboard and plastered. My new wall is studwork with plasterboard. This will join (in the corner with the existing wall). Plasterboard tape in my case?

    Internal corners - plasterboard

Where I have an internal join between plasterboard, should I use joint tape in the corner? I am using the thin coat metal bead on external corners.

On this, should I use single or double thread screws? Please let me know if there are any other recommendations. Thanks again.
