Sure thing! So - here's the lamp as it stands: I can cope with pulling the bulb out (don't touch it, I know...), then I need to unscrew the ring that's behind it to release the glass: Here's the new fitting - that shadering is clearly load bearing:

I'd need to get the shade off to get grips around them, vicious circle. There are two indentations in the ring which suggest the official tool was something fork-like...
