Maybe I'm being paranoid but over the summer I had my boiler serviced. But it was by a friend of my landlord who is very nice but I think a bit incompetent. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if he'd done something to cause this.

There don't appear to be any cracks on the exterior or interior walls. Someone mentioned to me how it might be something to do with the wooden window frames reacting to the changing temperatures. The most prominent noises come from right above the window. Could that be something to do with it?

I don't believe so. Not obvious if there are.
