How to connect 22mm pipework to 3/4 BSP bar mixer shower.

Thanks Muggles. I'll look into those fixing kits. More connections where I can get at them later sounds good to me. As for the 15mm pipe: I'll need to get into the loft to check, but assuming you're right about the boiler using 15mm pipes I see your point.

How to connect 22mm pipework to 3/4 BSP bar mixer shower.

I'm replacing a bath with a shower in my ensuite. I've exposed two 22mm H/C pipes which previously fed the bath and the ensuite basin. These will eventually feed the shower and basin (nothing else). The shower I'm trying to fit - a Mira Atom ERD - requests 1/2 BSP inputs which it then converts...

Two wires to single light switch

OK. I'll take a look tomorrow. If it was the previous homeowner I suspect he bought a big roll cheaply and wanted to use it all up. It wouldn't surprise me - he also clearly had one phillips screwdriver which he used for everything: The number of ruined pozi screw heads in this house is phenomenal!

Two wires to single light switch

Yeah I understand that - why bother to buy carry two different types when one does both jobs. The only reason I bought up two-way systems was to try to provide some background to what was likely intended when it was originally wired. I probably should have kept to the facts rather than trying...

Two wires to single light switch

To answer some questions: I indeed meant a two-way system, not a two-way switch I have not (yet) confirmed unambiguously which cable(s) run to the rose/where the 2nd cable goes. I take your points that this is the only way to be sure what the setup is here. Finally, I never actually intended...

Two wires to single light switch

What do you think of this? Am I missing something, because it makes no sense to me. It's a light switch which controls a light at the end of a loop in circuit. It's a one way switch and I can't see why there would ever be a need to make this a two way switch (it's a downstairs cloakroom)...

    Insulation over downlighter (Aurora model)

Thanks for the replies, but after discussing it further with SWMBO we've decided that the moved light can stay as a pendant. So it should be easier now.

    Insulation over downlighter (Aurora model)

Has anyone ever used these: Aurora Universal Compact Fixed 12/240V Fire Rated Downlight http://gb.auroralighting.com/Lighting-Products/Indoor-Luminaires/Fire-Rated-Downlighting/Universal™/Aurora-Universal-Compact-Fixed-12-240V-Fire-Rated-Downlight.aspx They claim to be safe even when covered...

Unsupported upstairs wall - surveyor or engineer

Thanks for the replies. Sorry for taking my time to respond - I've had guests. I've added some pictures below. The blue line is where the upstairs wall runs, the red lines are where the doorways above would be. Using a level and a straightedge on the ceiling the blue line is actually pretty...

Unsupported upstairs wall - surveyor or engineer

I've been in my 1930s semi for a couple of years. I've recently noticed that one of my upstairs walls is solid (blockwork I presume) and not supported by a corresponding wall below. I also noticed that the door frames in this upstairs wall are heavily distorted. There is a sag/creep of several...

    Adding noggins between joists

    That's a good idea.

    Adding noggins between joists

Thanks Vinn, Is skewnailing particularly difficult? I've lifted half the existing 18mm T+G chipboard and I can see the joists at each end and they're very firmly in wall pockets. No sign of damp or rot or anything either. I did seriously consider replacing the subfloor with ply, but cost...

    Adding noggins between joists

3.8m span. I'm stiffening it because there is a bounce when walking across it. Bounce seems to be in the joists - not the floorboards which are well screwed down (and not squeaky)

    Adding noggins between joists

I'm adding a some noggins mid span on a first floor to try to stiffen the floor up a bit. The joists are 47x200mm (400mm centres) and I have some 47x170mm to nog with. Plan is to stagger the noggins and screw through the existing joists straight into the end of each noggin. Was planning on...

    Waste pipe for downstairs toilet

Thanks for that link - lots to think about. So my understanding so far is that I can put in an unventilated stub stack and go via that into the underground drain. However, page 7 implies that I can discharge a toilet directly into a drain so long as the depth from the floor to the invert of...

    Waste pipe for downstairs toilet

Yes - the connection would be to an existing soil stack, not drain pipe.

    Waste pipe for downstairs toilet

Hi, Hopefully this is the right forum section. I'm looking to run a waste pipe from a new downstairs toilet into an existing downpipe from an upstairs toilet. The way I see it I have 2 options (see picture). 1. Route pipe along wall (with the proper fall) and round the corner into the...

Adding socket to Consumer Unit - notifiable?

Hi, I'm the OP and it's certainly been an interesting discussion. I got some quick quotes to do the work, but I don't fancy paying £100 for a job I can do myself. I think I'll spur my new socket off the 32A ring and be done with it. As has been suggested, if I really care about my device's...

Adding socket to Consumer Unit - notifiable?

Thanks Phatboy, Looks like I'll be trying to find an electrician who's inclined to small jobs.
