Thanks for your reply. The bricks themselves won't be visible when the job is done. I was more concerned about the weight of them as they seem considerable heavy than other bricks I have used.

    Doorstep Bricks

Hello all. I need to build myself a doorstep. For the step itself I have some (very heavy) stone slabs. I need to build these slabs up by one course of bricks to reach the correct height. My question; Can I use driveway bricks to do this? I plenty of these already but if they are not...

Diverter valve for Vaillant Ecotec 831

Looking back over the last few days I have come to the realisation that the diverter valve has only started to leak after a hot water tap has been used. If just the central heating has been on, but no hot taps used, the diverter valve has not leaked at all. Does this sound correct?? Kind regards.

Diverter valve for Vaillant Ecotec 831

Thanks Phill Peck, that's interesting to know. I will do as you have advised. Safety is my main concern now. I'll go and get a couple of electric oil filled rads to use for the time being. Thanks again.

Thanks for the explanation. I have a family to look after here and want to make sure they are safe first.

Diverter valve for Vaillant Ecotec 831

Thanks to you both for the warning. I know what I have to do. May I ask what is unsafe about using the boiler with the casing off?

Diverter valve for Vaillant Ecotec 831

Ok. So I'll put the casing back on and then switch the boiler off until such time as somebody can come out and do the repairs?

Diverter valve for Vaillant Ecotec 831

Thanks Phill Peck. Vaillant actually have a better offer by paying £99 over six months as oppose to paying it all in one go. Pay in instalments and all parts are covered. Pay in one go and only some parts are. Not sure why that is the case but there you go. I think I will go with them for...

Diverter valve for Vaillant Ecotec 831

Can I just check that it is safe to keep the boiler casing off in order to keep the electronic panel clear from the water?? I understand that as Agile has said, that ideally the boiler should be switched off and partially drained in order to stop the leak but I am not in a position to have the...

Diverter valve for Vaillant Ecotec 831

So has the advice I have been given poor? I'm not in a position to have the boiler switched off until such time as someone can come out and repair it.

Diverter valve for Vaillant Ecotec 831

I have been advised to leave the casing off to prevent water from getting to the electronics. Is this poor advice?

Diverter valve for Vaillant Ecotec 831

Yes, I have already had the case off. When I see water coming from the corner of the casing I want to know what's going on asap. I know enough not to go messing around inside trying to do repairs myself though.

Diverter valve for Vaillant Ecotec 831

Hi Agile, It is leaking. I would like to know what the cost of the part is before deciding between taking Vaillant up on their offer or using another plumber / gas man.

Diverter valve for Vaillant Ecotec 831

Hello all, It appears that the diverter valve on my 6 year old boiler needs replacing. This is not a job I think I would like to do myself. I have spoken to Vaillant who have advised me that it is no longer under warranty and so offered me a service whereby I pay them £300 and they will send...

    Restoring picnic tables

Thanks for your input. I have plenty of Sadolin which is being used for window frames and cladding etc. I hadn't considered it for the tables. Any other ideas?

    Restoring picnic tables

Good morning Chaps / Chapesses. I have recently acquired two very heavy picnic tables and a bench. They have been left outside for many years in all weathers and are looking as you would expect. They are still solid and I would like to try and get them looking better. I would appreciate any...
