How to correctly wire this light fitting? It won't turn off!

Sorry perhaps I worded that wrongly, I don't mean treat them as Earth cables, I just want to understand if that link with the diagrams explains what I should do with those wires? As i see it talking about Earth cables but don't see any Earths on mine. So any explanation would be useful based on...

How to correctly wire this light fitting? It won't turn off!

I did see that but got confused as there are no Earth cables in old ceiling rose, nor any Earth connections in the new fitting? Or do I treat the 3 cables in the middle of the ceiling rose as the Earth wires? Any description of where to put which wire based on my photos would be appreciated! Thanks!

How to correctly wire this light fitting? It won't turn off!

Hi, I have an old ceiling rose (pic attached) which as I understand it also has a switched circuit (not sure that's quite the right terminology but hoping you'll understand!). I want to replace with a pendant light fitting which only has a live and neutral input (pic attached). Do all the...

Wiring for new ceiling pendant light?

Thanks, this makes it clear. It also meàns I had wired it correctly originally but it wasn't working so I'm assuming a wire came loose when I was fixing the fitting to the ceiling. Will try again! Thanks

Wiring for new ceiling pendant light?

Haha well you should be able to see what I'm referring to or I'm guessing someone can answer without the photo..that light box has two holes for the wires - out of one comes two red wires and out of the other comes a black and a red, will that red (coming out od the same hole as the black) be...

Wiring for new ceiling pendant light?

Thanks for this. So I thought I had wired it all up correctly but still no light. Looking up into the ceiling I can see a black and red cable coming out of one end, and the two reds coming out of the other end. So I am now thinking perhaps I wired incorrectly. Am I right in assuming that those...

Wiring for new ceiling pendant light?

Thanks for the detailed reply, i hadn't put the two reds into the same connector, just to clarify they should be one either end as per the photo? Thanks

Wiring for new ceiling pendant light?

Hi, I have bought a new light with live, neutral and earth wire inputs. The current ceiling wiring is as per the image. Am I right in that the green and yellow is earth, red to brown is live, the black to blue is neutral and the two red ones in the middle are separate (switch wires?) I was...

Red ceiling wire no longer visible

Yes there is a second exposed ceiling box as I took both fittings down at the same time (they are about 2 metres apart), so essentially there are 2 of what you see in the photo. I also thought perhaps they are connected somehow however when I checked yesterday all the cables for the second box...

Red ceiling wire no longer visible

There was no earth wire in this one. Just two red and black cables tied together going into two holes in the fitting. Is this a danger? There are no other wires. In the same light the other side of the kitchen, the wiring looked a bit of a mess but when comparing to the other one it looks like...

Red ceiling wire no longer visible

In my attempt to get the wire end I had pulled some of this wiring out so it appears a lot of spare. There is a second ceiling light in the kitchen, but all those ends are still there so it doesn't seem that they are linked directly but perhaps I'm wrong?

Red ceiling wire no longer visible

Hi, We are trying to change a light fitting in our kitchen. I removed the old fitting and had the red and black wires coming out however when we went back to it the next day somehow one of the red wires has gone back up into one of the two holes within the 'casing' the wires come out of and I...

Fitting a spray nozzle to kitchen tap?

Hi, We have this tap but it doesn't go far enough into our sink so need one of these adapters. Will this one work? I can't seem to unscrew the top of the tap even thought it looks like you should be able to? If not that one what should I be looking out for...

New 17th edition amendment 3 consumer unit - metal or plastic?

Thanks for all the comments, this thread has got a bit technical for me now! But it seems the consensus is I do need a new consumer unit as want an electrical shower fitted, and if want to keep up with regulations coming into place from 1 January 2016 should consider getting a metal CU? Another...

New 17th edition amendment 3 consumer unit - metal or plastic?

You would have a non 17th edition amendment 3 consumer unit (unless it's been installed in the last few weeks). We all have. Amendment 3 is not just about metal/plastic, there are also requirements for the form of door hinge over the circuit breakers and sealing round the cable holes. Can you...

New 17th edition amendment 3 consumer unit - metal or plastic?

Just to clarify, the Sorry on your last point.. i don't understand why if it will be regulation in 3 months, its a bad idea to install something which will meet regulations for the foreseeable future, rather than something which will only meet regulations for less than 3 months, can you...

New 17th edition amendment 3 consumer unit - metal or plastic?

Thanks for the reply. Sorry, csn you explain what your 'you would have' comment referring to? Just to clarify the wording on the report said "Non 17th edition amendment 3 all metal consumer unit with RCD protection on all circuits required" If I remember rightly the last electrical check was in...

New 17th edition amendment 3 consumer unit - metal or plastic?

Hi, We had an electrical report done on a flat we have bought showing that we had a non 17th edition amendment 3 consumer unit which needs to be replaced to meet new standards. From some research I understand that they should be metal, or at least that the consensus is metal units are better...

Do I need to bond and skim or just skim to smooth over an artex ceiling?

Thanks, can you tell me why that is? What is it that the bonding will do, or what is the risk by not bonding? Any other feedback from others on whether a pva and skim would do a sufficient job or if a bond and skim is needed would be appreciated too! Thanks
