I dont believe its as easy as "adding a chemical in the tank".... there is special equipment that pushes and circulates chemicals and hot water around the radiators and pipework to clear out gunk. it is also commonly referred to as Power Flushing if you want to Google more on it...

thanks wannocks the mains flow at the moment is only 10/12 ltrs which isnt adequate for an unvented system it seems. could you suggest if having an unvented cylinder will atleast provide 10/12 ltrs to simultaneous taps or showers?
