    Front lawn border

Our front lawn comes up the house brick. I'm digging out a foot width border in front of the house, so that I can add some decorative stone Would folks advise about adding any sand first or a membrane of some sort. It will never be stood on, just for looks and ease when mowing Thanks

    Weed protector that's reliably porous

Maybe I've been super lucky with the thin fabric i used down the side of the house (which doesnt have a gradient). Zero weeds in over a year, but now I've jinxed it.

    Weed protector that's reliably porous

But getting back to main point of the thread - are there any weed membrane alternatives that would be more porous?

    Weed protector that's reliably porous

because we are also lowering some rather large drains in that section and want to cover them over with stones that be brushed to the side if an inspection is ever needed - which it hasn't ever. Plus my hope is that water will drain a bit faster at the top of the slope if stones/mot are there put...

    Weed protector that's reliably porous

not very big. it will be a curved section - 3m at widest section, 2m at narrowest. Probably 5-6m in length. Slope i'm not too sure. Nothing dramatic, no more than 10 degrees

    Weed protector that's reliably porous

Hi, I'm about to remove a few inches of grass and soil outside the front of my house, and add some stones, so we can walk on it alonside the drive. The dilemma I have is that there's a slope towards the house and I really want to try and prevent as much water running towards it as possible. I...

    Fitting soffit vents.

Fit 20 felt vents 2 days ago and made a massive difference. Might not need soffit vents, but will keep an eye

    Fitting soffit vents.

it's got me wondering how much lower these uPVC soffits might be, below the old wood. Might have to get a very long extension to reach the wood and continue drilling up through there. Knowing my luck, i'll end up hitting the roof

    Fitting soffit vents.

thanks - good to know - was your uPVC covering the original soffit? and did you find it easy enough to seal the vent in the plastic?

    Loft ventilation question

I'm also wondering if all the work I did 2 months ago in the loft (boarding and insulation) has actually caused this. Mostly because the loft hatch was left permanently open for a few days whilst i did this - but overall temps were higher then - but I would have been breathing a lot up there too.

    Fitting soffit vents.

thanks for this. I'm fitting the felt vents tomorrow (20 of them) and plan on seeing how this works over the week before thinking about adding soffit vents. I've made sure there's a gap around the edges when we added more insulation - I was wrongly assuming we had vents at that point!

    Loft ventilation question

thanks and yes just seen that reply - will message now. Yeah it's completely sealed. No dehumidifier unfortunately, I'll ask around to see if anyone has one. Suppose I'm wondering (hoping) whether the felt vents (fitting 20) will be enough to remove the existing moisture (we live in a relatively...

    Fitting soffit vents.

resurrecting this thread - did you end up using any other solutions such as felt vents or did you soffit vents end up working well enough? Same boat as you - I have uPVC soffits (no vents) and believe they fit this on top of original. Adding felt vents tomorrow as it's quite moist up there :-/

    Loft ventilation question

Just wondering if there are any solutions to quickly remove the current condensation that's there? I need to wait until Weds to fit the vents, but even then Im wondering if the extra air flow will be enough to clear up what's already formed up there..

Adding a wireless switch in garage

ha yeah got the correct switch ;) Just thought I had a 3 core cable at home but turns out it was 2 core, so quick visit to screwfix earlier, ready to sort this tomorrow

Adding a wireless switch in garage

Dammit, the cable i had in mind to use is a 2core and earth, not 3. Looks like it will be a job for tomorrow but thank you for the diagram. Hopefully it makes sense when I get around to it!

    Loft ventilation question

thanks, will fit 20 felt vents first, see how it looks after a cold snap, then try fitting some soffit vents if the problem persists

    Loft ventilation question

thanks - appreciate the reply - will take note of that. Out of curiosity, are felt vents more likely to help more than soffit vents or is there a need for both? Should have mentioned that the house is 1996 but no signs of Asbestos. Surprised there hasn't been issues in the past with damp etc...

    Loft ventilation question

Sorry, I know there are many threads on this, especially this time of year. We recently boarded the centre section of our attic using loft legs and added a further 170mm of insulation to the existing 100mm between the joists. I made sure to leave a gap around the edges. Up there yesterday and...
