    EV Chargepoint - Wiring Options

I think this may be a case of semantics and I could have worded my post better. First..... Caveat lector - I make no claim on the correctness of the information in this post. This is my opinion formed through researching manufacturers and suppliers websites; wikis; various fora and playing...

    EV Chargepoint - Wiring Options

Not sure if it was intentional, but this does highlight a good point - don't accept everything on face value you see/hear/read including on fora such as this. No matter how well intended sometimes we do post stuff in such a way it comes across as fact where it may be opinion. I'm guilty of...

    EV Chargepoint - Wiring Options

From the following replies it seems that option 1 is popular - stick with light and mains socket as spurs off the house and run a separate cable for the chargepoint. So, would option 2 be unworkable? I still like the idea of a CU in the garage so I can have more lights and power. If this...

    EV Chargepoint - Wiring Options

Wow lots of posts some of which have developed a life of their own.... I'll address the ones I have comment for and then get back on to the original request. Thats a good point, but its the charger built into the car that is sensitive to a volt drop. I think this is a safety feature - the on...

    EV Chargepoint - Wiring Options

I won't be ordering my EV car until mid 2018 so can't get the 32A chargepoint installed under the government grant scheme right now (rules!), but as I have the en-suite floor up now would be a good time to run some cable in readiness. A once never to be repeated opportunity because the floor...

    Vaillant Ecotec 838, VRC430 & Nest Thermostat

Go for the VRC470F which is the wireless version & runs on batteries so you wouldn't need to chase any wiring into the walls. Have a look at Vaillant www they do have manuals online which may help with your decision.

Vaillant TurboMax Plus Combi DHW Too Hot

Problem solved. The 'heating engineer' booked a Vaillant engineer who fixed it quickly. He said the gas pressure was a bit off (heating engineer should have found this!) and replaced the circuit board. Thanks for all the helpful comments all.

Vaillant Ecotec pro and smart thermostats

Is this always the case? Would the size and type of property and occupants requirements make this unsuitable in certain situations? I looked into this a few years back, but decided it wouldn't suit my needs. I came to this conclusion after playing with the existing TRVs to reduce the temp of...

Weather Compensator - Vaillant VRC 430 setup

Hi Andrew, I have a VRC 430 and it did take a bit of trial and error to set up to suit my house and needs. I found thermostat mode and setting Max. pump blocking to off (0) works best for me. Getting to your problem, it could be that the rad is too small. Theres lots of tools online to help...

    vSMART and MiGo

Thanks for all the comments so far. Getting back to my original post - I would be interested to hear opinions from anyone who has fitted or used these smart stats. To start things off.... Questions: Can you override or manually configure the settings? EG if you’re not happy with how optimum...

    Boiler cases and room seals

This is very worrying. I too previously thought the case on my ecoTEC was under negative pressure so any leaks would be inward. I have my boiler serviced annually and recall on three occasions (by at least two different engineers) that I had to refit the cover afterwards because the...

Vaillant TurboMax Plus Combi DHW Too Hot

Hi Wannocks, Sorry, I must avoid brevity. I should have added ‘if not, I will ask him to’ after I’ll ask the engineer if he has done this… You should see from my other posts that I’m not trying to do this myself. I’m trying to gather info/opinions so I can have an informed discussion with...

Vaillant TurboMax Plus Combi DHW Too Hot

I will ask the engineer if he has done this. You will see from an earlier post that I checked the gas rate under min and max DHW flow conditions, albeit very rough and ready, the results of which seemed to fit in with the spec in the manual. Thanks

Vaillant TurboMax Plus Combi DHW Too Hot

Hi Tony, With HW running from cold start to hot I monitored the graph in the logging on vrDIALOG (see picture in earlier post as an exapmle) and measured the temperatures on the pipes near to the flow, return and warmstart thermistors. All readings were broadly as expected and similar. If...

Vaillant TurboMax Plus Combi DHW Too Hot

It’s getting too hot at all flow rates accross 3-15 lpm. From the previous flow tests I can see that the boiler is modulating the heat output which I guess is a function based on the measured flow rate, but adjusting the DHW temperature control has no effect whatsoever. If it’s set at 35C...

    vSMART and MiGo

Nope, but who doesn’t like a bit of new tech?? Seriously though you make a good point. I never did think it would make a significant difference to my gas usage, but now you pose the question I feel compelled to weigh up the benefit Vs cost ….. I like the optimum start option. My existing...

    vSMART and MiGo

So it's not the product, but the company. That's a relief! I must say I've been very happy with my boiler. Quiet, reliable & very efficient with the VRC430 which is why I'm a little bit apprehensive changing the set up & requesting feedback on this forum.

    Vaillant Ecotec 838, VRC430 & Nest Thermostat

Sorry, I may have got my terminology wrong there or misunderstand weather compensation from other suppliers controllers. As I understand the Vaillant compensator can communicate with a Vaillant boiler fully over eBUS so it can request different flow temps. A third party compensator will only...

    Vaillant Ecotec 838, VRC430 & Nest Thermostat

They do indeed. However, the Vaillant weather compensator varies the flow temperature unlike the digital on/off weather compensators which means, as John stated, the boiler will operate at as low a flow temp as possible to maintain the required room temp thus improving the efficiency of the boiler.

    vSMART and MiGo

Correct, I have Vaillant and I see this as a more complete solution than the controls from the likes of Honeywell as it fully integrates with the boiler for modulation, flow temp (I assume this is correct?), etc. I also like that you can connect via the web so you can delay or fire up early if...
