    Adding a light switch

Ok, I sorted it.... thanks fir the replies.... if anyone is interested, I had wired the live and common from the switch and the light together in the new switch... so I had two brown cables and two blue cables going into the new switch instead of having a brown in and a brown out and then...

    Adding a light switch

My understanding of electrics is basic but I thought the original switch would need to be permanently on to keep the circuit closed? I then use the new pull cord switch to turn the light on and off?

    Adding a light switch

I’ll take a pic tomorrow and post it... it looked complex to me as it didn’t look like any switch wiring id seen before... from what I can make out it seems a three core power feed goes to the switch, even though the switch only has two gangs it seems that from that switch 4 three core wires...

    Floor joists

Ok, thanks for all the answers and help... stupid question, if I was to build pillars out of block, how would I get the rsj “tight” underneath the existing joists? The idea of the acrow props was so I could tighten the props to get a snug fit so the rsj actually supported the joists....

    Floor joists

Yeah, the garage won’t be used for cars in any event..... in relation to the support pillars for the rsj, could I just use acrow props (meaning I get a tight fit) or should I use block pillars? The acrow props would save time and hassle....

    Floor joists

If I were to put in an rsj across the centre of the garage and support this with brick/block columns, would this effectively half then length of the joist span therefore reducing the need to increase joust sizes?

Thanks for the reply.... it’s not what I was hoping to hear though!!!... what you’re saying is logical, but much more expensive and time consuming!! Thermostat wiring

Think I've sorted it and it seems to work!!! On reading instructions more carefully it seemed the yellow went to terminal 3 as I had 3 wires to connect (not including earth).... If I had no neutral the yellow would have gone to terminal 2..... Thanks for the reply.... If it goes "bang" i'll be...
