Thanks so the boiler detects the drop in pressure?

Hi... I've turned my mains water off ...I want to drain my tap off so I can service the washers Does the combi boiler need isolating so it doesn't run dry or would it not run due to low pressure..? I don't want to damage the boiler by doing something stupid... Oh Yeh it's a valiant boiler Kind...
