    Watching Youview in another room

Do youview boxes not have CEC built in? Genuine question as I haven't used one before..might be an option assuming the splitter passes it through to the youview box and the TV supports it

Kitchen cupboards and cooker hood outlet

Oh like a recirculating hood instead of venting to the outside? Do you not get increased condensation from steam?

Kitchen cupboards and cooker hood outlet

Unfortunately not, the hob/cooker hood will have to back onto an internal (paramount boarded) wall

    Accessing texecom software and manuals

I'm researching replacement alarm systems for a DIY install and Texecom seems to be the manufacturer that features quite a lot on here and other security boards that I've stumbled across. However, their installation manuals and software (Wintex) on the website are restricted to registered...

Kitchen cupboards and cooker hood outlet

I'm planning to look at fitting a set of kitchen cupboards (wall and floor) and associated appliances soon which have come from another kitchen so they weren't designed for the space they'll be going into but so far it looks like should go in ok.. The existing kitchen (that the cupboards are to...

Getting fridge out of tight space?

Is there's space you could get a sheet of hardboard, shiny side down (rougher side up), tilt the fridge back and slide the sheet in under the feet (getting the back ones on is sometimes tricky), once it's on you you should be able to pull the board from the front with it on top.

Fit rad to a brick wall covered with plasterboard and tiles

+1 for Dryline Pro, I've used these for rads. Or you could try Grip It fixings

Neatly presenting 10mm copper pipework through drywall

I'm currently doing some decorating in a couple of downstairs rooms and I'm replacing a few old radiators and adding TRVs while I'm at it. The rads are plumbed in with 10mm copper drops behind dot and dab walls. Where the pipework exits the wall it's quite untidy (~5 inch x 3.5 inch hammered...

    Laminate floor gaps

This is interesting, i'm also thinking of fitting some laminate soon to replace some old T&G engineered flooring. There are currently expansion gaps left everywhere around the downstairs wooden floored area (which were hidden by scotia until i pulled that up recently) but there is cork used...

Running telephone extension next to power cabling

I've been doing some reading (primarily here) and am now thinking of using Cat5e for the telephone extension (something like this). I've tried to avoid power routes but there are a couple of places where the telephone extension will have to run parallel with mains power. I suppose there is no...

Running telephone extension next to power cabling

Ah ok, the power cabling that the extension could run parallel with terminates at a double power socket that I was hoping to use to power the router + phone and a powerline adaptor to get the router as part of a wired network. That might be an issue then I guess..

Running telephone extension next to power cabling

Thanks for your reply @bernardgreen. When you say noticable hum, I assume you mean audible hum? Rather than describing interference on the signal as hum. I'm planning to plug a phone and router into the extension socket, not sure if that makes any difference. It's the internet connection I'm...

Running telephone extension next to power cabling

I have a telephone extension (installed before me) run from the master socket surface mount round a number of doors ways, through walls etc and it looks unsightly so as I'm decorating some of the rooms it passes through I thought I'd sort it out. I have a couple of options on where to install...

Matt emulsion scraping off wall, what's going on here..

It's a small bathroom, the previous room with paint issues was a bedroom. The walls have a white matt emulsion with the yellow coat of something below. I've applied a steamer to it with a scouring pad, the matt emulsion comes away quite easily with that and the yellow substance goes washy like a...

Matt emulsion scraping off wall, what's going on here..

I'm in the process of preparing a room for decorating and noticed that some of the existing matt emulsion on the walls (applied by previous owners) can be scraped off relatively easily (some places not so easily). See video here The walls are paramount boarding with a plaster skim but seem to...

Ethernet cables through ceiling & joists or cavity wall

Ah so you've got some RF/bluetooth, IR (or sky app) and whatever PS4 uses for control panel going back the other direction too presumably, worth a check that these don't drop out and limit where you can use them upstairs - some HDMI tx/rx units have IR transmission built in. Not a fan of cavity...
