Ideal Classic FF250 Gas Boiler - Solenoid Clicking

Correct - the pilot remained lit. In the end that remained lit and there was no clicking at all from the main one. All replaced now (yes - by the RGI Tony) and working properly once again. Happy days. Thanks all.

Ideal Classic FF250 Gas Boiler - Solenoid Clicking

No separate black solenoids available for these - only the complete valve. I bought PCB myself so that will be a good spare part. My parents have the FF260 boiler so first to break can have it. It cost less than £25 so not an issue. RGI would not have known in advance that cork seals would have...

Ideal Classic FF250 Gas Boiler - Solenoid Clicking

I'll let you know once it is out and replaced. Can the old part be repaired or best just to bin it? Worth anything to anyone with a failing solenoid?

Ideal Classic FF250 Gas Boiler - Solenoid Clicking

PCB swapped over this morning (by RGI). Same fault so Gas valve being replaced with a new one next (By RGI). At least I have a spare PCB now.

Ideal Classic FF250 Gas Boiler - Solenoid Clicking

Hi Tony, When he was round it was assumed that the valve was at fault and not considered pcb at the time. No testing was done on the PCB but that was a cheap part so we are swapping that as soon as it arrives. All heating and plumbing work I believe. He's very good at what he does and is a great...

Ideal Classic FF250 Gas Boiler - Solenoid Clicking

Engineer friend swapping out PCB for me. We will see if that resolves it.

Ideal Classic FF250 Gas Boiler - Solenoid Clicking

I'm sure he does but at the time he was there we were set on it being the valve until further research gave us another option. If it is pcb can an electrician look at it and re-solder / replace components? If not touching the "Gas" itself then a competent person can do that surely? I'll update...

Ideal Classic FF250 Gas Boiler - Solenoid Clicking

Hi Tony, Thanks for your comment. Not ideal that both parts can cause this fault but hey ho. Appreciate through a forum you never know what the motive is but this is not a diy attempt. I have no intention of trying to repair the boiler myself which is why the other evening when the noise first...

Ideal Classic FF250 Gas Boiler - Solenoid Clicking

It only seems to do this after the boiler has been on a while and luckily has brought the house up to temperature. That says to me that it is more likely pcb related as that could have been damaged over time with all the expanding/contracting I assume it does right next to a hot boiler.

Ideal Classic FF250 Gas Boiler - Solenoid Clicking

Cheers Jon. I have had gas engineer round last night as I appreciate it is not a diy job being gas. It is either of the two parts though and rather than swap and see it would be good to get the right part/diagnosis first time. He had not seen a gas valve do this before so unsure which is causing...

Ideal Classic FF250 Gas Boiler - Solenoid Clicking

Hopefully someone has seen this fault before and can offer me some advice. Last night our boiler started making a loud clicking sound. While clicking the gas was cycling low to normal. (video link to follow once I upload it to YouTube) The clicking was coming from the Gas valve solenoid. (...

Plumbing in new sink to existing pipework

Will this cut the pipe (as I have a new one of these)..... http://www.screwfix.com/p/tube-cutter-3-28mm/49428 or will I need the "special" pipe cutter??..... http://www.screwfix.com/p/jg-speedfit-pipe-cutter/93312?_requestid=69947

Plumbing in new sink to existing pipework

Hadn't thought I'd need elbows but will get some later if needed. The "monoblock with tails" will only be about 4-5ft from the valves. Would the pipe curve or would that place too much stress on either end. Less connectors the better I had originally thought.

Plumbing in new sink to existing pipework

Thanks Rob. Good point about the WM valve only isolating that. The feed from the cloakroom next door has Full bore isolating valves just before it comes through the wall into the garage so I can use them to isolate if there is an issue. Much easier access than pulling out the washing machine...

Plumbing in new sink to existing pipework

Thanks Rob. I have bought all the bits now and this is the plan. Thanks for the reply. Seems a good solution to me. Only issue I can see is the existing glued in bends in the standpipe (Circled in yellow). Will leave them in place and see how it goes - I can't see them being a problem? Cheers, Lee
