    Bedroom Furniture

We have just bought and built a PAX wardrobe, well technically two side by side. Best advice I can give is the use the online designer on the Ikea website as it only shows you compatible shelves, doors, etc Also agree going to look in store, they have a special area and staff the can advise you.

reduce depth of a window sill board (part 2)

Yep - thankfully you won't be seeing a thread on 'how to reduce the width of a draw' :D:ROFLMAO:

reduce depth of a window sill board (part 2)

Yeah that's right big-all (y) The frame and hence rails that the doors will slide on will be split in the middle so the two left most doors will slide across each other and the two right most doors will slide across each other.

reduce depth of a window sill board (part 2)

It's IKEA stuff, so there is a frame and doors that are part of the set which will fit perfectly to the front of these carcasses, I just haven't fitted them yet ;-) All comes from the PAX range, you can pick carcasses, chose your desired internal layout of draws, shelves, hangers etc., choose...

reduce depth of a window sill board (part 2)

The crux of it is simply that the wardrobes (with or without sliding doors fitted) are slightly wider than the space available due to the window sill intruding into the space needed by about 20mm. The sliding doors, once fitted won't make the wardrobes any wider but will add about 70mm to the...

reduce depth of a window sill board (part 2)

Yes that definitely would have worked too and looked decent as the wardrobe would be flush to the left wall To be honest I had to pick a low risk option was nervous about removing it as we had recently had a sliding cavity door installed and replastered on that wall and I didn't want to end up...

reduce depth of a window sill board (part 2)

One last pic.. the sliding doors are still to go on but this illustrate the tightness of wall to wall fit and why the sill needed to be cut to make it all work. I know it's only Ikea stuff but I'm happy. Cheers all again for your help ☺

reduce depth of a window sill board (part 2)

I know there is nothing more annoying than taking time to give advice and then not knowing if it was actually used :)

reduce depth of a window sill board (part 2)

Hi guys, After receiving good advice I just wanted to come back and let you know the outcome. I eventually decided to just cut the part of the sill back where the wardrobe overlapped. I bought a multi-tool and nervously went for it. The measurements and cut are just right and it has given me...

reduce depth of a window sill board (part 2)

Thanks very much chaps, I think I will try to run a jigsaw along a straight line, then shape/round off the edges by sanding :) I think this should be lowest risk for me to attempt and I have the jigsaw already. To answer one of the suggestions regarding cutting into the unit, it would be the...

Sorry - rookie mistake :-/ thanks for linking and closing the other one.

reduce depth of a window sill board (part 1)

Yes, I agree 15mm is very tight in terms of breathing space. On the plus if they go in as planned it will look good as it will fit snug wall to wall, if it doesn't I'll have to re-think, either shave back further or swap a 1.5 wide for a 1m wide and have a gap by the window. I measured up in...

reduce depth of a window sill board (part 1)

thanks Gazman16 You kind of confirmed my findings that the board won't come up without a lot of force and damage (based on my trying already). So if I understand correctly you suggest maybe clamp some kind of straight guide (metal rule or something dead straight) then use that to guide a...

reduce depth of a window sill board (part 2)

Thanks footprint, I am not sure how steady my hand would be with a power planer but I'm always up for a challenge! foxhole - to explain why.... I've got a room that I want to fit 2 x 1.5m wide Ikea PAX wardrobes side by side, so 3,000mm wide in total. I know I could go the custom made wardrobe...

reduce depth of a window sill board (part 1)

cheers big-all so it sounds like it isn't possible to cut back and create a finished edge in one? I'm not sure what the sills are but are glossed wood of some kind. The 'lean' won't work i dint think as it's a 3m long run of wardrobes that would have to lean 'sideways'. To explain why...

reduce depth of a window sill board (part 2)

hi guys, I posted this question in the Windows and Doors forum but in hindsight it's probably one for here. I need to reduce the amount an internal window sill protrudes into the room. It currently comes out from the window and carries on beyond the wall line by approximately 4cm, I need to...

reduce depth of a window sill board (part 1)

hi guys, I need to reduce the amount an internal window sill protrudes into the room. It currently comes out from the window and carries on beyond the wall line by approximately 4cm, I need to reduce it to approx 2cm, so it doesn't stick out more than the thickness of the skirting board does...
