    Baxi 105e fan/flue fault

Fixed price from Heateam was £270. They offered me the option of their repair and cover which is £25 per month for 12 months (£300) so I went with that seeing as this was the third fault. That included this repair and any further repairs in the next 12 months. Anyway, it turned out to be the...

    Baxi 105e fan/flue fault

Cheers guys. I'll look into it further. I could do without the hassle on my xmas break! EDIT: looks like the tiers are £69, £189, £349 for BG

Yeah, that's probably likely. The reason I considered BG is because they offer a fixed quote where they won't charge you more than that quote even if it takes longer to fix or needs more parts than they thought. I guess I could call a local guy too and see what he says.

Thanks, I kind of expected as much. I think I'll call British Gas and get one of those fixed price quotes. Merry Christmas! :(

    Baxi 105e fan/flue fault

Hi guys (if anyone is reading this over xmas). I had the nice present of my boiler breaking on christmas eve! Oh joy. I'm getting no hot water or central heating and the fan/flue fault (50°C) light is flashing. I know there are similar threads on here and I've read through a few of them...

Stuck! What vapour control layer to use in an old house.

If you're framing out and insulating on the interior, you want a vapour check membrane to stop warm moist air passing through the plasterboard & insulation and condensing on your cold walls. 500 gauge visqueen or foil backed plasterboard will suffice.

    Opening up a fireplace

Did more work today but still haven't got all the bricks out. I found a couple that are bonded into the side piers (are these actually called cheeks?) so not sure what to do with those. I'll try chisel them out I guess. Would appreciate it if anyone has any advice on my original questions...

    Opening up a fireplace

Don't worry I have no intention of installing the stove myself. Looking up the chimney, I'm fairly certain I'll need a liner but I'll be getting an HETAS guy to do all that. At the moment I'm just preparing the opening and want advice in preventing my chimeny collapsing!

    Opening up a fireplace

I know there's a lot of these threads but I thought I'd start one specific to my project. I'm opening up my fireplace so I can have a wood burning stove installed. So far I've gone from this: to this: I was fairly lucky in that the new brickwork was set back abuut 150mm from...

    General question on domestic electrics

Just had a look at my electricity bill and it appears I'm on a single rate despite having a day/night meter. I got charged 38 kWh at 22.4p and 171kWh at 8.74p depsite using 77 kWh at night and 132 kWh in the day! That bill is for 28 days and seems to tally with their single rate tariff...

    General question on domestic electrics

I think I'm starting to understand how the set up works now, thanks to you guys. Does switching to single tariff need a new meter or do they just disable the timeclock so the current meter measures a single rate only

    General question on domestic electrics

Would I need to supply this board or would the sparky take care of that? I could fit a board ready for him to come but it would obvioulsly be in a different location the the current CU. Don't worry, I don't intend on touching any of this stuff. I'm definitely out of my depth with this...

    General question on domestic electrics

Thanks for your input all. Nice to know I'm not in any immediate danger! I'll try to address all the points raised so far... I do have an electric shower and outdoor socket so I need an new CU to get RCD protection. I'm pretty sure the small CU on the right is redundant. The one fuse in...
