Corner deck with posts 2.5m tall to hang lights

I hadn't considered scaffold poles. Not a bad idea. For the last set, I used a large metal washing line post which is basically the same thing, so why not Cheers

Corner deck with posts 2.5m tall to hang lights

I'm warming to this idea. So long as I can still keep the deck lower than 30cm with this approach. And I'll need to level up my string line skills, I think, as setting the support in concrete before connecting the joists means they'll need to be spot on, to keep everything square but also at...

Corner deck with posts 2.5m tall to hang lights

Thanks for the quick reply, JohnD. I should have mentioned, the post will be treated - and when planning to put it below ground, I will first dig out a hole, drop some gravel or bricks at the bottom, pour on 6 inches of concrete (let it go off) and rest the post on this until I get it straight...

Corner deck with posts 2.5m tall to hang lights

Hi all In the corner of my garden I'm planning to build a ground level deck (it will be raised slightly off the ground but the top of the deck will be 30cm or less from the ground). I want to have some festoon lights around the area and was thinking how best to hang them around the decking...

Thanks everyone. This has given me the confidence to try it out. Will wait for daylight though!

Use a 3 way WiFi switch for a single light?

Does the way I've phrased this make it obvious I'm not a qualified electrician!?

Use a 3 way WiFi switch for a single light?

That's good to know. Thank you. Could you advise where the wires should go? was thinking both blue neutral wires go into the N connection on the WiFi switch. The brown wire currently going into Common on the existing switch, goes into either of the wavey line connections on the WiFi switch...

Use a 3 way WiFi switch for a single light?

Hi all, I have a couple of spare 3 way smart switches. I have a single light switch in my shed and thought I might as well make it 'smart'! So I wondered if I can use my old 3 way smart switch... I've attached a picture of the wiring for the existing switch, a pic of the back of the smart 3-way...

    Decking support

Thanks for your thoughts. Yeah, I think postcreting would be the way to go for a rock solid deck but I made the decision early on not to cement anything in because I'd looked at a number of articles and most said, for ground level decking, if the ground is level, gravel is acceptable. Some...

    Countsink decking screws?

I can't make any specific recommendations on screws but I'd just make sure they are clearly labelled as decking screws then you can't go wrong. The DIY stores have lots of choices specifically marked as 'decking'. Regarding the countersink prep, I think it will depend on your screws. Some are...

    Decking support

Hi all, I am in the middle of laying my ground level decking. I have dug out the soil, laid weed membrane and covered it with gravel. I put my frame on top and despite my previous attempts at levelling the area, some of the joists were in the air. So, I have distributed the gravel to ensure...
