After neighbour had new roof last year - Tiles falling off my roof in recent winds

I suspect he sent some juniors around and couldn't be arsed to supervise the work. We shall see. Getting a survey done now - my neighbour is too. I'll give the roofer one chance to rectify it, but like you I don't hold out much hope , but giving them a chance should then put me in a stronger...

After neighbour had new roof last year - Tiles falling off my roof in recent winds

I hear you. We've literally this week managed to get high court bailiffs to go after a tradesman that took our deposit and pretty much stopped working on the job. 3-month process from "Letter before Action" to "Notice of Enforcement". But that was quicker due to a default judgement. So really...

After neighbour had new roof last year - Tiles falling off my roof in recent winds

Interesting - there is Legal Protection Cover and it looks like it is separate from the main policy. (a kind of multi-policy bundle). And it has a free legal advice line - I'll give them a ring.

After neighbour had new roof last year - Tiles falling off my roof in recent winds

They'll help with any claim against the contractor :) Things are friendly at the moment. I'm giving benefit of the doubt and assuming they didn't really keep a close eye on the job and I'd rather fall out with a cowboy contractor than a friendly neighbour. - I'm just hoping the legal options...

After neighbour had new roof last year - Tiles falling off my roof in recent winds

So my insurance doesn't cover "Loss or damage arising from faulty workmanship, defective design or use of defective materials" - which I think this is except they were contracted by the neighbour not me - so might come under negligence/duty of care? anyway once I get a quote back I'll get it...

After neighbour had new roof last year - Tiles falling off my roof in recent winds

I already said "and the gutter now falls mostly on my side." - thanks for another stellar contribution. Anyway based on seeing the front for the first time yesterday - I think I can safely rule out my roof being old as being the main issue here.

After neighbour had new roof last year - Tiles falling off my roof in recent winds

Yup neighbour has paid and it also encroaches. It's even worse at the front -saw it for the first time yesterday. They removed tiles on the party line without permission and the gutter now falls mostly on my side. I'm contacting my insurance company for guidance / next steps. I dont trust the...

After neighbour had new roof last year - Tiles falling off my roof in recent winds

Thank you cdbe - my own layman investigation is pointing towards a badly installed bonding gutter (which incidentally also encroaches on my property without agreement) - so I'm having an independent roofer quote to make good and also seeking advice from my insurance company. As for Herts P&D...

After neighbour had new roof last year - Tiles falling off my roof in recent winds

I now suspect this may be an issue with the batten spacing they used to bridge the chimney space, the gutter and my tile size?

After neighbour had new roof last year - Tiles falling off my roof in recent winds

My neighbour had a new roof installed last year , and we also agreed to get a rear party chimney taken down at the same time. This year some tiles fell off where the chimney was. I had not seen any picture of the roof until this incident. (I did ask but forgot to follow up) Anyway Roofer fixed...

How to add insulation boards to a hidden wall?

Hi, We have an external wall made of bungaroosh abount 3.5 sq m. it is in a recess under a staircase and will eventually be completely hidden by a fake wall about 1m away. Block Paved Path sags in the middle before compacting?

Thanks all. Luckily the water runs away from the house towards the gate. They levelled it out a bit more after my concerns. Not a hill to die on at the moment as neighbour is happy. Waiting for invoice now (They were pushing for payment with an invoice in USD instead of GBP! )

Block Paved Path sags in the middle before compacting?

Hi, I'm currently having a shared path block paved with the neighbour. This is how it looks before it has been compacted. Shouldn't it have been levelled up more first? The fitter assures me that: 1) after compacting it will be level 2) some dip will keep the water away from the walls This...

Damp - Victorian Semi. could several layers of exterior paint be an issue?

I just checked: They have had damp problems as long as they've had the house ? (45+ years), - biggish family 5 kids :) I never really noticed myself - too busy being a kid I guess! The Cavilty Wall Insulation was installed about 25 years ago (but this might not be a smoking gun just another...

Damp - Victorian Semi. could several layers of exterior paint be an issue?

I'll ask about cavity filling. I dont think that has been done. I'll get some interior/exterior shots after next visit in dry weather. Damp is on exterior walls of both floors - full height of walls.

Does a new cooker extractor need a plug socket if it has a plug?

Thanks everyone for the input - Though it looks like a fairly simple job I'm fairly sure I could connect up myself, I'm now tempted to get an electrician to do the work as I plan to rent and don't want to put other people at risk due to some freak "accident", or get in trouble. Presumably I...

Does a new cooker extractor need a plug socket if it has a plug?

Sorry JohnW2 - I edited post 38 behind you back after I went to take another look! So some options are -Run appliance cable directly to isolator switch if it can reach - OK (would like cables out of sight really) -.sit join inside appliance inside a in-line connector - Thoughts ? I suspect...

Does a new cooker extractor need a plug socket if it has a plug?

Thanks for input so far. Just a quick correction - I think to connection was inside of the old extractor not behind the wall - if you look closely at the wire it comes out of the wall. I had taken it off some weeks ago so I might have given everyone a bum steer on that . sorry.. I had just...

Does a new cooker extractor need a plug socket if it has a plug?

Thanks - I agree on just cutting off the plug and putting the new one in place. I just wanted to double check because the handyman said I might need a plug socket. On balance of what's been posted here, I'm happy to just cut off the new plug and join it on to the existing connector. I'm assuming...
