French drain / ACO / hiding waste pipe

Thanks for the reply, it does have a very narrow cavity and has a sort of asphalt / tar damp course from what I can tell? There is no manhole anywhere, yes I have solid floors, I believe they were filled in around 30 years ago, it has a DPC sheet, concrete and then asphalt. Thanks! I know...

French drain / ACO / hiding waste pipe

I have an 1890s terraced. At some point in the past it's had a concrete rear yard and then flags have been laid on top, all right up the the house. To help with damp, I remove around 100mm of flagging around the house, this appears to have helped. Now I've since had my kitchen sink moved and I...

    Insulating an old bathroom

At the moment condensation is happening on the cold interior walls of the bathroom, by introducing insulation, I am worried condensation would now happen at the next coldest point (the cavity). Maybe I am wrong, just something I have read.

    PVC Shower panels

Looking to purchase some of these to replace the tiles in my shower, do you have to use the internal corner profiles? Or can you just butt the corner up and silicone it? Just to make it look more like tile?

    Insulating an old bathroom

Thanks for the reply. I like this idea but am worried that adding insulation will move the dew point to the cavity, meaning my cavity will get wet and it isn’t ventilated. I was hoping by building a stud wall and adding PIR, I could add a full moisture barrier to the whole wall before...

    Insulating an old bathroom

Thanks everyone. What would be the best option for external walls that are just going to be plastered? Should I still use the XPS board and skim over or is there a better or cheaper way?

    Insulating an old bathroom

I’ve currently got a Tornado ST100T Silent 100mm wall fan, it comes on with the light and runs for 10 mins after. I’m concerned about moisture penetrating the boards with it being in a bathroom, that’s why I was considering studs, pir and then a vapour barrier over it all?

    Insulating an old bathroom

I'm looking for the best option on insulating my bathroom, it's a Victorian terrace (1895), it has cavity walls (very narrow cavity). The 2 options I am looking at would be, - Insulated plasterboard straight onto the walls (worried about the break in the built in vapor barrier at each join)...

Office inside of sectional concrete garage

Ok, so just insulated the roof same as walls, vapour barrier sheet over insulation, then plaster board should be ok? Thanks again, really appreciate the help.

Office inside of sectional concrete garage

Thanks again. Any advice on best way to construct the roof of this box in a box. Cold roof or warm roof? I think I'd struggle to do a warm roof as I won't have access to the top of this box when constructed due to the garage roof.

Office inside of sectional concrete garage

Thank you. Just had a quick measure up and for space and cost, I’m considering 2x3 cls for stud work and then 50mm pir for walls and 100mm for floor and ceiling. Would 50mm for walls be a bad choice for walls? Would it make a huge difference over 100mm for a small office space?

Office inside of sectional concrete garage

Thanks! No the roof doesn’t leak. What sort of thickness and material of insulation for both floor and walls should I be looking at? If I put insulation board on the slab, could I then just put flooring sheets over that I take it? Cheers

Office inside of sectional concrete garage

Hi, I am looking to convert a small section of my concrete garage into an office space. I know this isn't ideal but I need the rest of the garage and don't want to knock the whole thing down to start again with a timber structure. My thinking is to build a freestanding stud wall structure...

    Conduit pendant light fitting

Hi, I am looking to put 3 pendant lights in my kitchen, these specifically - https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/solklint-pendant-lamp-brass-grey-clear-glass-10430778/ I currently have only 1 ceiling rose, so was hoping I could create something like this - Ideally it would be black, I know I...
