    Sliding Roof Lantern

Wish i hadn't bothered to be honest, was just trying to "finish" the thread as i know how frustrating it can be when a thread has no "end"

    Sliding Roof Lantern

Thanks, yes, local company. Copper is has not gone green as it has been treated to retain the finish. Also, i will be "hovering around" as the upstairs windows are at waist level. So every time you go up the stairs it is the first thing you see out the window, hence using copper. Thanks, i...

    Sliding Roof Lantern

Just to update this for anyone who is looking for a sliding roof lantern, we went with a roofmaker one in the end, was very pleased with it, use it all the time! Takes a little while to open but it has a limit switch so you can leave it to open, and it has a rain sensor so it closes itself also...

    Sliding Roof Lantern

The unit is going in a kitchen, i have spoken to 4 people with roof lanterns, 2 with blue tint and they all said the rooms below get very hot in summer, especially in a kitchen. So for these reasons i want an opening roof lantern. Better to not need it and have it rather than not have it and...

Curved brick arches above windows in new extension

Maybe yes, but it keeps BCO happy, gives me (Novice) an easier time building the arch. If i was to buy standard flat lintels and arch former's it still comes in at just over £300. What would you do?

Curved brick arches above windows in new extension

I ordered 4 curved steel lintels from IG in the end, quite expensive at £500 but they will do what i want and keep BCO happy. I also do not need a cavity tray over the lintels as i have sufficent eaves overhang of 300mm. Thanks for the suggestions.

Curved brick arches above windows in new extension

Yes, i did tell him it was only an infill while it was being built. He told me you cannot use an arch for load bearing and it would need a lintel above it so the arch is only supporting itself. It's just trying to find the best solution.

Curved brick arches above windows in new extension

Indeed, however usually you use a timber former and build around that, but the BCO was not happy with that solution due to the timber rotting, his words. I have sent an email to Catnic and IG for a quote for curved lintels so will see...
