    Blinds in awkward bay window

Hi all, Come to gauge your thoughts on possible window dressing for the bedroom. I finished the TV window seat but now struggling to visualise other than the conservatory style 'bead fit' blinds what else I can out at the windows due to the placement of build in wardrobes (left) and limited...

    Painting OSB

For anyone that finds this thread by a search I opted for a specialised paint bt Zinsser. Zinsser Allcoat Exterior Matt (Tinted). Yes for 5L it may feel expensive but goes on great. I got my man cave painted, ceiling and all internal walls (building size 6m x 4m) done in one coat. One more coat...

    Painting OSB

Morning all. Hopefully someone has come across this before.. I have just clad the inside of my outbuilding in OSB3. Wall sheets ate butted together and behind it sits a vapour control layer. I now want to seal/caulk the joins and paint over. Gaps vary from tight upto 5mm. Thoughts on what I...

600mm centres - Wood or plasterboard?

Hi Woody. Very perceptive. They are slightly overspanned i think. Hence why I want the lightest possible but so it won't sag under its own weight. I wouldn't mind fitting some form of hollow board etc to keep the weight down. Wasn't sure which would weigh less, timber or plasterboard but like...

600mm centres - Wood or plasterboard?

Thanks Woody. I would look to tape and joint it so no extra plaster skim weight. I don't mind the extra few pounds a board.. is it worth the extra to go for 15s?

600mm centres - Wood or plasterboard?

Hi all, So now comes my first real predicament in the man cave/shed build. I put roof timbers in at 600mm centres with no noggins. I now have the predicament of the ceiling finish. I will be putting in a VCL and then covering but I can't decide plasterboard over timber.. final finish aside...

    Purlins Sat On Chimney Stack?

Thanks LeoFric, My existing wall lines I mean the main supporting walls that run through the house. As an older property, rather than stud walls, all the existing room separation is done by solid brick walls and then plastered over. The below is the 'wall line' that I believe the purlins sit...

    Purlins Sat On Chimney Stack?

Morning all, So I have had the chimney removed from the roof to below the roof line and now want to continue to take it out down the house, through the third bedroom etc. As you can see from this image there are two great big purlins sitting on some brick work. My suspicion is that this brick...

Building single skin brick shed off retaining wall?

Ok so decided on block in the end. Will copy the flat roof design and render from our neighbouring extension to tie it all in. Concrete base and some tanking on at least the lower retaining section and shouldn't be too bad in the end.

    Wood Capsule/Pellet identification

Potentially yeah. They aren't bespoke made fire wood though. He gave them me as scraps, effectively they are a bit product of some process they go through at the mill, off cuts if you like. I'm thinking if they have been compressed it's likely there is some chemical to hold them together and...

    Wood Capsule/Pellet identification

They look more like a compressed wood fibre to me. They don't have a natural grain at all.

    Wood Capsule/Pellet identification

Afternoon all! I was at my local saw mills the other day and asked if they sold wood for my log burner, they didn't however the friendly chap gave me a box of the below.. He said they are 'hardwood pellets', offcuts from the cutting they do but didn't really know what from. I don't want to...

    Original chimney Breast lintel curved??

Its so easy to just rip them out but i think you lose the fabric of the original house in a weird kinda way. I saved them in the front living room too, sanded them down and painted them along with the rest of the plaster. More conservation than restoration but feels the best thing to do...

Building single skin brick shed off retaining wall?

Thanks for the calculations buddy! I did have it as less that than as I took off the 2ft that already exists in the concrete block as would sit the facing bricks on top of these blocks so 2ft is already convered. You really can see why people just buy wooden sheds can't you, ha!

Building single skin brick shed off retaining wall?

This is very true. I think I have about 150 bricks from a removed chimney and I will repurpose the bricks from this previous garden building..

Building single skin brick shed off retaining wall?

Had Had time to look at this yesterday. Looks like there is a foundation that the blocks are sitting on that seem to sit about 150mm inside the brickline so should be a solid enough base to go off for a single head height shed... Now to find me a bricky
