Building a wardrobe frame - do I want a circular or Mitre saw?

Hello everyone, I think I know the answer to this but just want to check that if I am building a wardrobe frame from CLS timber do I want a mitre saw or a circular saw for the cutting? I have previously done this sort of stuff with a handsaw but I think it is about time I invested in a bit of...

Am I wasting my time trying to make two panels out of one? lap board fence?

Thanks, I did have the foresight to order some 4.8 19x3.8, two of them in fact. I did neglect the fence cap mind, so that's another thing I will need.

Am I wasting my time trying to make two panels out of one? lap board fence?

This sounds like a promising idea. Just so I understand when you say the centre timber do you mean the slat in the middle or are you talking about something else? Are you effectively replacing the middle fence slat with a gravel board and when you say 'ripping down a gravel board' do you mean...

Am I wasting my time trying to make two panels out of one? lap board fence?

Yeah I did look but they were mostly about making them slimmer, which I have done successfully. Still haven't found one to make the cut horizontally and thus make one panel into two.

Am I wasting my time trying to make two panels out of one? lap board fence?

Thanks for this detailed response. I will go through what you suggest in my head before deciding on what to do. A great deal will be left to whether the shop can take them back at the same time as delivering what I want, which as you rightly point out is feather edge and not lap board. Thanks.

Am I wasting my time trying to make two panels out of one? lap board fence?

Ok so I currently have three 6ft x 6ft fence panels which I bought at a great price. I needed 6ft x 3ft however and was trying to be clever by buying the 6x6 on deal and making them into 6x3ft i.e. one 6x6 into two 6x3. Now that I have the panels delivered I am not so sure it'll be possible as...

Building an extension, what is the process with architects?

Thanks, I won't ask but you are the exact type of person I am looking for so may I just ask if you were advertising what would you call yourself so that I know what to search for?

Building an extension, what is the process with architects?

Thanks Woody, sage advice as always (I have seen your contributions on many other posts). I like the idea of a designer but wonder what exactly to search for i.e. what exact term would you use to find someone who isn't an architect but is a competent 'designer'? You're right about the search...

Built in cupboard - frame or wall fixings?

Thanks for all your input on this, very helpful indeed. I like the sound of the concert blaring out whilst you built some of these wardrobes and I may well try and emulate somewhat, perhaps with Glastonbury on instead! Good tip on the walls, they are likely not entirely plumb so will need to...

Built in cupboard - frame or wall fixings?

Thanks, that is an appealing option but as opps says there is a bit of a worry about MDF and Formaldehyde. They do look great though so a top job and good for inspiration for myself.

Built in cupboard - frame or wall fixings?

You're right about the depth, don't think 50cm will quite cut it so will have to have a rethink on that. I think you;re right, need ot play around with what timber is available but would like to get an idea of the general principle. Your designs sound fantastic so thanks for sharing your...

Built in cupboard - frame or wall fixings?

Hello ETAF, thanks for your response. This is a very interesting take but to be honest I would like to avoid MDF and materials like that as they are not as nice to look at and are known to off-gas/be toxic. As this is a bedroom I would prefer to use pine and I also would like the challenge of...

Built in cupboard - frame or wall fixings?

Hello Looking to make my own built in cupboards. The idea is for there to be two long doors with rattan in between frames and some wood to cover the side protrusion from the wall (depth of alcove is not enough for hangers and we prefer a sideways rail). My two options are: A. build a frame...

Building an extension, what is the process with architects?

Hello and sorry to post this on an ostensibly DIY forum but I woudl like a bit of guidance and people on here seem to be very knowledgeable. We recently moved into a house and are looking to improve it with an extension/kitchen renovation. Below is the very rough plan with the following: red -...

10yr old Worcester Bosch Greenstar CDi only used for 2 years and stored since, worth installing?

Thanks for the answers everyone. Seems like it is a non starter and might just have to go straight on ebay instead. Shame, but seems like a big gamble that probably isn't worth taking.

10yr old Worcester Bosch Greenstar CDi only used for 2 years and stored since, worth installing?

Thanks to you both. I fear you may be right about this but worth asking in case i got some support. I will try a couple of fitters but my fear is that they won't want to touch it.

10yr old Worcester Bosch Greenstar CDi only used for 2 years and stored since, worth installing?

We just bought a house which has a very old Vaillant Turbo Max 242 installed in 2005. I recently acquired a Worcester Bosch Greenstar CDi 30 from my parents who used it for two years and has been stored in a dry, cool place on its back since. I am sure that like for like the latter is a better...

Mounting a garden gate. Advice please

On another note does anyone have a particular brand of post support for going into concrete that they recommend? I've looked at Screwfix and Toolstation but not sure if they are any good. If anyone has a suggestion of a decent 75x75 (this is for the fence post the other side of the gate) then...

Mounting a garden gate. Advice please

Thanks to both of you. Yes I will definitely be replacing the fence in the near future (summer) but for now I am trying to make this part usable and relatively secure. I will be back asking questions about that part before long I am sure but hopefully I can get going on this section for now!
