    Thoughts on skirting job...UPDATE

As you can see from the last image, he's not lined up the skirting to the same height as the architrave that had already been fitted and which had left a suitable gap for the carpet. We discovered this today when we decided to try and push the old carpet back in place, having now run out of...

    Thoughts on skirting job...UPDATE

Well just when we thought it couldn't get any worse, we've discovered he's fitted the skirting against the floor. This is despite my husband asking him to fit it slightly higher than the old skirting as we're going for thicker carpet. So we can't get carpet (even if it was almost paper thin)...

    Thoughts on skirting job...UPDATE

So I've had a reply to my email...would welcome your opinions! My main issue is with the carpentry, not the fact he's not filled the nail holes & caulked the gaps between the skirting and the walls. I'm not sure the carpentry work is salvageable and I don't just want it bodged with filler...

    Thoughts on skirting job...UPDATE

Yes it was definitely him and not an apprentice. I don't understand how the finish can be so bad when he's done other carpentry jobs that have been so much more complicated! Just gutted we're left in a worse position at the moment and unable to proceed with painting and re-carpeting until/if...

    Thoughts on skirting job...UPDATE

He seemed to mainly use a saw, which is how I think we've ended up with such a bad finish. We didn't look properly at his work until he'd gone. Thankfully we haven't paid him yet and I don't intend to unless he can come up with a satisfactory solution. Not sure where we'd stand legally with not...

    Thoughts on skirting job...UPDATE

Other examples of his work from his Facebook page above, including one with skirting he replaced (last image). So general consensus is to not pay for the work and that it's probably better to take it off and start again (using someone different)?

    Thoughts on skirting job...UPDATE

Fortunately he's not done any other work but the skirting & architrave are enough damage! We've actually ended up worse off - the old stuff, although unattractive, was fitted much better! Just hoping he's not funny about non-payment, although I guess I could always threaten to share the photos...

    Thoughts on skirting job...UPDATE

We'd seen photos of his other work on his Facebook page and he's got really good reviews. We were shocked at the finish. Sadly it's the same in all 3 bedrooms. With a baby due in just over 5wks, we wanted new skirting in place before we re-carpet. Not sure whether to rip it off & start again...
