Advice Sought About Cleaning Products and Methods

I have an indian stone patio, sandstone is not usually attacked by brick acid, but cement and limestone do get attacked. So start with an inconspicuous bit to get used to using it. Brick acid is hydrochloric acid at a medium strength, varies by supplier, you can usually buy it at almost any of...

    Indian Sandstone

It is where the mortar is not fully bonded to the sandstone, it has slumped/shrunk or been shaken away from contact with the underside of the stone, so moisture is getting in. If they had used 5 dabs it would be circular marks, possibly laid a little wet. Most likely will stay like that now.

Roof tiles to repair, one with a crack

Hi, Had a roof done a while ago. I worked out that the "flashings" on the ceramiic tiles have caused a crack in two of them some time after laying. I used some spray on stuff to buy some time, but it was rubbish and has gone hard. I am thinking about solar panels on the roof sometime, so that...

    Felling a tree technique

All very well setting up the wedge gap where you want it to go, but you also have to consider where the center of mass of the whole tree above the cut is. If it is significantly off to one side, that is where it is going to fall. You may need to cutoff some of the higher up smaller branches...

Also, the wider and thinner a vent hole is the less air will actually go through it. The static "boundary effect" reduces the effective gap.

    Butchers block bevel protection?

Clear silicone inbetween the work surface and block, would prevent liquid runing down, would only require a one-off heaving of the block. Then the paintbrush idea has less to sweep out. On another furum one person had a chip that broke on his black granite worktop, clear epoxy recreated the...

    twin slot shelf supports

Also there are two different types of twin slot that are almost interchangeable, could be an imperial/metric switch? I had to extend the number of rails from the previous house when I moved and the new brackets rails needed a bit of filling to make them interchangeable. If you buy them all in...

Internal wall stud spacing, new build (2017+). Is 1200mm normal?

make the bits in green quite chunky, they can be fixed on the 1200mm centes, and the bench fixed for the 1500mm. It will need each green timber in your picture to have two screws at each fixing to the wall.

    twin slot shelf supports

I used twin slot shelves in the garage, needed to use battens on the wall with loads of screws to keep that firm, then loaded up with lots of stuff way over the limits and has stayed up for 20 odd years now. I did find that an uneven wall can cause the rails to bend (front to back) when screwed...

    timber framing sizes ?

for a given timber size used for a shelf the sag is proportional to the cube of the distance between supports, so going from 1 metre to 1.3 metre spacing gives (1.3)cubed extra sag. So would give more than twice the sag. Mr Rustys answer would help you use a thinner shelf without the sag. Even...
