new floor screed has cracks and sounds hollow

Thanks Notch7/Doggit for your help and replies. Yeah I suspect you're both right, I don't think it was prepped properly, I don't believe the base was scabbled or shot blasted. I'll get in touch this week. I know it's hard to tell from the video and pics, but does it seem like the screed has...

new floor screed has cracks and sounds hollow

Yeah the cost of 40mm of self levelling compound soon adds up, there's quite a few places online (e.g. https://www.concretecentre.com/Building-Elements/Floors/Floor-Screeds.aspx) that suggest a bonded screed can be laid at depths of around 25mm, so I was lead to believe this would be ok and...

new floor screed has cracks and sounds hollow

It should be bonded to the concrete base below it (there's no insulation, it's an old 60s house). I believe they used sharp sand, and PVA as a bonding agent.

new floor screed has cracks and sounds hollow

Hi, I recently had some screed installed by a local builder, approx 6 weeks ago. It's since started to show small cracks and, when I knock on these sections it sounds hollow. Where as the non cracked sections sound solid. It was about 40mm depth and was sand/cement/pva based. Now it's cracked...

Procedure for denso tape around copper pipe

Hi, many forum posts and my local plumbers merchant have advised to wrap copper central heating pipes in Denso tape before screeding over them. I'm trying to work the best way of wrapping the pipes. All the pics I can find online of denso tape are massive industrial pipes, not small radiator...

Concrete floor with bitumen paint - more bitumen or seal ?

Hi Bowlzi, yeah looked back at your original post, similar situations, been looking into the F Ball screed and DPM too. Looks decent, and most likely option for me now. Have made a thread with pics for my situation as I'd like to start soon...

Replacing screed (25-40mm) and installing dpm

I recently pulled up the screed from my floor because it was cracked and damaged from damp. So I need to replace the screed, the screed depth required ranges from 25-40mm (concrete floor is not entirely level). I've taken some pics so you can get the idea: Here, you can see the depth of the...

Concrete floor with bitumen paint - more bitumen or seal ?

Sorry - only just saw this, yeah I totally understand you last statement. Did you manage to build back up the screed to around an inch? IF so, what did you use? I need about 30-40mm (differing in places) which is annoyingly too shallow for screed as it may crack. I had damp around the wall...

Concrete floor with bitumen paint - more bitumen or seal ?

Hi, first post here as I'm also in the process of trying to sort out my floor which is in an similar situation to yours and Bowlzi. I thought it might be worth mentioning: In my situation, the tiles were positively identified as containing asbestos, as was the black bitumen mastic that was...
