    Help! Corrosive substance

Hi Blup I am pretty sure it's sealed though hard to tell. The brickwork was rendered after the installation. The render isn't sealed to the frame but the brickwork beneath might be. That being said, the residue coming out is very waxy in consistency. It feels more like a melting adhesive...

    Help! Corrosive substance

Hi all A year or so ago. I had new bifold doors fitted as part of my kitchen renovation. A few months later I noticed a strange waxy/gungy type substance leaking onto the edge of the frame where it meets the plastered reveal. I thought nothing of it to start with, but it kept coming back and...

    Screed or Backerboard?

Morning That was an interesting back and forth. Thanks for all the advice. The existing ply does indeed run under the exisiting tiles on the other side of the threshold so would be tricky to remove. I will stick a few more screws into it to secure it and make sure it's not moving. Is the...

    Screed or Backerboard?

Ok great, thanks. We're using 6mm porcelain tiles. They are a bit fiddly (the bosses choice, not mine). The ply will be useful to bring it up to the height of the other side of the threshold so it's a bit of a win win really. I'm guessing softwood ply over hardwood? Or is it not too big an...

    Screed or Backerboard?

Hi Benny Thanks for the info. Would you say 9mm ply rather than Backerboard? Thanks

    Screed or Backerboard?

Hi all I am looking to tile the floor of a small downstairs cloakroom (picture at the end). Total areas only around 1.3m squared. Currently there's a mix of ply and original floorboards. The surface is generally level, but there are some very slight higher discrepancies between the different...

    Remove Horsehair Plaster?

Hi folks We're redoing our living room and the plaster was cracked and sounded blown in lots of areas. Having removed a lot of the skim layer it looks like the base horsehair plaster is quite old and cracked. It still feels fairly solid but does crumble in places. I've tried to take a picture...

Connecting into old Telcon 1/2 Pipe Mains

Hi all I'm in the midst of replumbing my house and have discoverted this black plastic pipe running the water mains: I am presuming it's an old imperial standard even though it seems identical to 22mm pipe. Are there any push fit or compression adapters that I could use so I could cut into...

Remove Honeywell stat from heating system wiring

Haha. I am perhaps a tad above a rank amateur. I do indeed have a panel box with connector block strip and blanking panel acting as the main junction box/wiring centre. The thermostat wires are easy enough to locate and are currently wired in as per my picture A. The nest heat link has indeed...

Remove Honeywell stat from heating system wiring

Yes exactly, the main junction box is upstairs in the airing cupboard which is where the Nest receiver is. I am assuming then I can just patch the relevant cables on the junction box as per picture B and that would cut out the thermostat then? Does that sound right? Thanks

Remove Honeywell stat from heating system wiring

Hi folks. I'm a rank amateur here at best, however with a bit of work I have successfully installed a Nest Thermostat and Heatlink to run my heating and hot water. However there is an old Honeywell thermostat which is still wired through the junction box which is still active in the system so...
