    Small tiling patch onto bonding

I’m now reading that I should use SBR on the thistle hardwall instead of PVA. Is that correct? if so how many coats of SBR should I apply and how dilute would each coat be? Given it’s such a small area and at floor height, I’m fine with tiling to the hardwall directly provided I know how to...

    Small tiling patch onto bonding

I need to patch up a small portion of untiled wall in my bathroom. This was previously exposed breeze block. Had a plasterer around last week to plaster the ceiling and he also offered to apply bonding to the exposed breezeblock saying that I could PVA the bonding and then put some tiles on it...

What is the purpose of this pipe?

Great. Just so that I’m clear, would I keep the bath trap the same and only change the sink trap? The bath trap is in an awkward position to change with limited space and it’s quite a shallow trap (if that makes any difference).

What is the purpose of this pipe?

Finally got around to opening it all up. Here's a diagram of the pipework setup. Given this, do you think it would be safe to remove that vent pipe (highlighted in red). What's the worse that could happen if the pipe is removed? Could an anti-syphon trap on the sink waste (highest waste point)...

How to patch this hole where the wall meets the subfloor?

Sorry I haven’t explained myself very well. Where you see plaster is where it is adhered to masonry. However; where you see the hole, the masonry is no longer there, so there is no backing material - just empty space. This is further complicated by the fact there is no subfloor inside the...

How to patch this hole where the wall meets the subfloor?

Unfortunately the existing plaster is adhered directly to the masonry (there is no plasterboard).

How to patch this hole where the wall meets the subfloor?

I've ripped off some wall tiles as part of my bathroom renovation, and found these large holes (2-3" high in places) behind the tiles, where the wall meets the floor. The subfloor doesn't appear to run under the wall, so I'm not sure how to fill the gap if the filling material cannot be...

What is the purpose of this pipe?

Thank you for that. One thing I should add, I think the sink and bath drains are connected under the floor (and I assume then connect to the soil stack but I can’t see that join without removing some boxed in pipework). When I run the sink tap, I can hear very audibly the sound of water...

What is the purpose of this pipe?

Thank you, and the diagram was super helpful. If I replace the bath trap with an anti-siphon one, do you think I could safely remove that secondary vent? Or would I be better off leaving it?

What is the purpose of this pipe?

I checked and as I suspected, just a regular vent stack that comes out of the roof tiles.

What is the purpose of this pipe?

Nope, nothing above that waste pipe connected to the soil stack.

What is the purpose of this pipe?

I'll double-check tomorrow, but I seem to remember the soil pipe connects to a vent stack through the roof tiles, with a vent terminal. The reason why I'm confused is that I thought the whole point of a u-bend on pipework is to act a barrier to the gases in the sewage/soil pipes. If that's the...

What is the purpose of this pipe?

Sadly not - the toilet overflows into the bowl and the sink overflows into the sink waste pipe (which is not connected to the pipe I want to remove)

What is the purpose of this pipe?

I'm about to undertake my first partial bathroom renovation and I'm trying to see if I can tidy up some of the old pipework. This is a first floor bathroom. Directly under this bathroom on the ground floor, there is a utility room with sink and washing machine in it. I have a downward sloping...

Fix hole and crack in ceramic sink

Thank you. Any product in particular you’d recommend? I was considering trying the milliput epoxy putty.

Fix hole and crack in ceramic sink

Thanks very much for the product recommendation. Any idea if this stuff is putty like (high viscosity)? Anything too runny will just flow into the hole.

Fix hole and crack in ceramic sink

My son accidentally dropped a glass into our sink bowl and now there is a hole and a crack running 3-4” away from the hole (the crack is barely visible in the photo but can be felt by running a finger along the length of the crack). What is the best way of fixing this such that a fix would last...

Can I wire in 12V transformer for LED strip at end of downlight chain?

You're right - thank you for correcting me. I’ve drawn out an updated diagram….

Can I wire in 12V transformer for LED strip at end of downlight chain?

Apologies - you are right - I was being lazy with my terminology when I drew that. So is the proposal in my diagram okay? My concern is mainly that the LED downlight chain is a switched live and so the 12V transformer does not have a neutral unless fed from the junction box.

Can I wire in 12V transformer for LED strip at end of downlight chain?

Thanks very much. I can confirm that each downlight is earthed.
