Replacement toilet flush - cable or pneumatic

Just an update in case anybody has to deal with a 2 inch (50mm) flush pipe. Most flush valves I came across had adapters for 1½" & 2" outlet cistern holes, but only fitted a 1½" flush pipe. However, the Viva Skylo comes with fitting for both sizes of flush pipe, the only downside is that the...

Replacement toilet flush - cable or pneumatic

I need to replace my existing pneumatic button flush, as the rubber diaphragm that lifts the flush mechanism is leaking, and was wondering whether I should go for another pneumatic, or are cable ones more reliable? The outlet hole seems to be 40mm internally, but the pipe looks to be 50mm...

    Shower switch short cable

I hope that isn't the case, if they are any shorter, it will be like doing vascular surgery with pliers! It sounds like I need to get the switch and box off, labelling up the wires as I go, and see what my options actually are with proper access to the cable and hole.

    Shower switch short cable

Sounds like a plan, and I suppose I could always double check them with the mulitmeter (if it works). Thanks for the advice folks.

    Shower switch short cable

I do, so if it still works (it has been a while), then suppose I could test the wires for voltage, if I separate them, or put them in some connector block to be safe.

    Shower switch short cable

That would hopefully make it easier, although I notice from the reviews, "this is not a good replacement for a square box. It requires a good separation of in and out cables by a couple of inches (and these things are not flexible), like each side of a joist. Cable holes are small and on each...

    Shower switch short cable

Yes it is in a single story extension, and they also left hardly any slack on the lighting rose, but I managed to change that as the wires were more malleable; it might be that the cables are similarly clipped to the joist. There is about an 8cm gap to the wall, so I might be able to move it...

    Shower switch short cable

The switch on my electrical shower has stopped working, so I got a replacement, and when I went to change it, I couldn't pull the switch away from the box further than about 1cm. It seems that the person that fitted it pulled the cable back towards the consumer unit, and didn't consider the...

    Altech/Salus - any good?

It seems to have died, no lights on and nobody at home, even though the fused spur, before it, is okay. Looking at the manuals, the Boss ones seems to be almost identical to the Altech/Salus, only with a 2 year warranty, and the price isn't much different. Drayton, I used to think of as an okay...

    Altech/Salus - any good?

Okay, I expected that response, but can I ask, Is this from experience or just what you have heard? Looking through this and another plumbing forum, I have seen mixed reports, some seem to think that they are okay for the money, others, particularly those using the Wifi controlled ones, seem to...

    Altech/Salus - any good?

Hello folks, I think my Honeywell CH/HW controller has failed, so I have been looking at possible replacements. Graham do an Altech(rebranded Salus, I presume) one, that is half the price of Honeywell/Drayton ones, it seems to offer very similar function and comes with a 5 Year Warranty...

    Washing machine waste confusion

My fingers found nothing, it wasn't even that dirty!

    Washing machine waste confusion

When my washing machine pumps out, after about 20 seconds, water starts overflowing out of the top of the downpipe behind the cupboard. I have removed that waste pipe, the ubend and the 90' connector to the off white connection to the down pipe from the sink waste pipework, and there is no...

Trying to get rid of an airlock

This morning, I decided to 'Vax' it again via the horizontal pipe after the trap, and there was a thumb sized lump of clotted washing powder in the grey water. After connecting it all back up, the sink was draining freely with no siphoning or prolonged burping, so I ran the washing machine and...

Trying to get rid of an airlock

Every year or so, I seem to need to clear the gunk out of my kitchen sink waste pipes, which also take the waste feeds from the washing machine and dishwasher (see attached photos), which I do, after advice from a plumber, by removing the trap under the sink and sucking out the water and gunk...

    Correcting a leaning shed

Hello folks, I have a shed made from horizontal tongue & groove planks, that is leaning to the right on the front, so badly that I can't shut the door properly. Previously the whole shed was leaning to the right, but after straightening it up with props, and screwing some chipboard sheets to...
