Peelaway 7 - turned into Smearaway

I’m guessing no one will know looking at the forums, but trying Peelaway 7 on some intricate Victorian plaster coving. Allegedly, it’s thick layer on, cover, wait, and it all peels off. Well, 5 days later, it’s still a paste, no where near dry, and just leaves a messy smear of peel away when...

Getting fed up :( old Victorian door glazing replacement

He is the boss, sole trader. I’ll be honest, I don’t want him back to fix the installation of the glazing, I’ll take that hit again if I have to and pay someone else to fix his mess. I don’t have any faith in his skills not to make things worse. What I do want though is to cover the cost of...

Getting fed up :( old Victorian door glazing replacement

It won’t let me post my laughing emoji …. :( I totally get that removing glass may lead to some damage, I’m not a crazy person, but damage to areas outside of where the glass sits is mind boggling. You can see where he’s missed while hammering, or the multi tool has slipped. The locksmith was...

Getting fed up :( old Victorian door glazing replacement

Ok, time for some photos. Looking for thoughts on if I’m being reasonable or not wanting to withhold to cover the damage caused. He is suggesting this level of damage is expected when replacing glazing. Have also attached some photos of the workmanship, not added them all, lots where the...

Getting fed up :( old Victorian door glazing replacement

That’s a good idea, I’ll have to go around the whole install and try and punch the pins down below the surface of the beading, without breaking the glass!

Getting fed up :( old Victorian door glazing replacement

I’ll might do in a few days Basically, while removing the old glass from my front door, they managed to split the centre panel that sits in the middle of the door, and when I say split, it’s a large horizontal split / chunk pushed forward in the wood about 10cm long, that they said popped out...

Getting fed up :( old Victorian door glazing replacement

I’m in the position of I’m thing the jobs a write off, and needs re doing, but I’m not confident in this chap. The other damage, to other areas - I don’t want them trying to bodge fix it. I was planning costing up repairs, and suggesting that gets deducted from their invoice. I’ll have to...

Getting fed up :( old Victorian door glazing replacement

Thanks everyone, feels like it should be safe to putty/glazing clips instead of beading. I’ll not post photos of the work, I’m not into naming and shaming, but it’s not great. I know I’m not allowed to withhold payment, but assuming it’s safe to work out the cost of repairs to all the damage...

Getting fed up :( old Victorian door glazing replacement

It had old glass in it while stripping. I’m more asking about the putty Vs beading, which is safest? Glass is in door and in panels above door.

Getting fed up :( old Victorian door glazing replacement

Hi all. This home renovation lark is getting very depressing. I either have too high standards, or I’m expecting way too much. Ok, old Victorian door, months of stripping lead paint, and painting. Finally today had it reglazed Installer has used beading, not putty as it’s safer allegedly, to...

    New UPVC Hinges broken already

A local company, good reviews, good work so far - they did an amazing job re sealing all the windows at the same time, so hopefully they will put it right. Until they don’t, I’ll not mention them here, as it’s probably not fair. I’ll let you know what happens in the next week

    New UPVC Hinges broken already

so not a total start again. Onto the moral dilemma of if someone has paid a few thousand pounds to have all their window hinges done - and they all now look like that, do you accept the packers and the damage, or do you ask for the correct hinges to be installed, as they should have been…..one...

    New UPVC Hinges broken already

Thank you. Do you think they can put the packers in now with those damaged parts, or is it whole new hinge time?

    New UPVC Hinges broken already

Hi all, Just a quick one, have spent a large amount having all the UPVC hinges on my windows replaced, as they were sticking/broken/not closing. And I’m very happy that my windows now work ok with not a single draught Was going around cleaning all the frames afterwards, and noticed that on...

    Strange white/blue wire that’s disintegrating

Unfortunately not, it’s all been knocked out and redecorated, leaving the ends of the wire totally unreachable unless I start pulling up floors :(
