Plasterboarded Ceiling but there are a few gaps + advise on walls

Thought about it a bit and I'm not going to touch it until I have someone take a look at it. I agree that it's a bad job but I don't want to pull everything down just in case some of it can be easily fixed. Vinn you said "Ceiling p/b's edge butting raw brickwork should be scrimmed against the...

Plasterboarded Ceiling but there are a few gaps + advise on walls

Thanks chappers, so just joint tape over the gaps will do? Yes I stapled the foil straight to the joists, in my rush and lack of experience I didn't stop to think that any protruding staples or anything I might have missed would be a problem. To get it level would mean taking it all down and...

Plasterboarded Ceiling but there are a few gaps + advise on walls

Hey, I've put new plasterboard up on my ceiling, which I had to do on my own, it's 25 sqm so took a while and it was made a little more difficult because I added the silver bubble wrap type of insulation that was stapled to the joists. Anyhow, there are a few places where the boards do not...

Standard Size of a GU10 LED Bulb

Hey, I'm having all the wiring in my house redone and having lots of spotlights put in. I bought the bulbs without thinking to much about it but they were pretty cheap (£35 for 12, 7w) The electrician fitted 5 in the loft but tried to get me to use the ones he would supply that were more...

    Cutting into ceiling joist

Potentially weakening the structural integrity of my house is a serious matter is it not? First off. You said "google - header joist pics and hearth trimming joists pics" I did and was presented with lots of different images/configurations and as I don't know what I'm looking for exactly...

    Cutting into ceiling joist

Thanks, the shallow bath trap might be an option but the bath is on the first floor and I don't know what a gully is and if I connect to one? (probably not I guess) "Suitable for use in most ground floor situations where the discharge waste pipe is going direct to a gully" Image search for...

    Cutting into ceiling joist

Yeah, had a re-think. I can move the bath to the right 6 cm and put a panel in to cover the gap between the head of the bath and the wall. This will mean I just remove 9 cm x 5 cm off the floorboards and avoid the joist completely. The hole will be hidden by the bath panel. That works for me.

    Cutting into ceiling joist

Hey, I'm fitting a new bath and in order to get it to the correct height, the joist under the waste pipe needs to be cut into. The joist that needs to be cut into, spans a distance of 3.14 meters, is 18 cm deep, 5 cm wide and approx 37 cm apart from the joists than run parallel to it...

    Soil pipe to roof

Handymen...they've done a bit of everything and the closer I've looked at what they've done the more things I see that need to be re-done. Their time working here ended yesterday. A costly mistake!

    Soil pipe to roof

It probably was a bodge that they thought I wouldn't notice. I've told them to fix it, which they will be doing.

    Soil pipe to roof

Thanks. It would seem like they need to sort it out. The toilet is on the first floor, the pipe comes out the back and through the outside wall into the loft space in the extension. The shower, bath, sink and condensation pipe from the boiler connect to the toilet waste pipe and runs...

    Soil pipe to roof

Hey, I've had someone do some work and it involved moving the toilet and soil pipe. Before they did anything, the soil pipe was connected to another pipe that went to the roof. Now the soil pipe comes out the toilet, through the roof (extension) and then into the ground. I was told that the...

    Understanding my Electricity Main Board

Thanks for the reply's and info. I opened the cutout box just for the photo. I knew it was the live feed and took absolute care not to touch anything. The door just lifts and opens though, there was no seal (I wouldn't have opened it if it did) I closed it right after I took the photo and...
