datarebal thanks for you reply. It was like that when I found it. The pink insulation, stuffed in like that, is like that around the whole ceiling including the other two windows which don't have the damp problem. It could be the cause I don't know. The missing insulation on the plasterboard...

I can see whats happened now. The size of the opening in the wall before they put any wood on is sand/cement rebate width 67cm

So do I need a carpenter or joiner to do this. Do you think they will be comfortable cutting sand/cement back and installing a frame
