Hello

How to I deal with a large transition, length (4cm) and height ( 1.2 cm).

I want to put LVT flooring in the kitchen and hallway. The transition is between the kitchen and hallway.

The kitchen is connected to the living room. The kitchen and living room are at the same level. This means I cannot level the kitchen with the hallway witout leveling with the living room too, which I don't want to do

Many thanks

Looks like it needs grinding. Does it have a damp proof visqueen under the screed

Yes the damp proof membrane sticks out the side of the room

That’s a fairly chunky transition at 12mm, so you’re right to plan it properly.

Because your kitchen and living room are already level, I wouldn’t try raising the whole kitchen just to meet the hallway. That’ll create more issues than it solves.

Your best bet is either:
  • A ramped threshold strip designed to handle a 10–15mm height difference, which keeps things simple.
  • Or feathering the hallway side up slightly with smoothing compound over a short distance so the change feels more gradual.
Also make sure the subfloor is properly smoothed before laying the LVT, especially around that crack. LVT really shows imperfections.
