Insulation board for sloped ceiling (skeiling)

Thanks. My fascia / soffits are all wood and aren’t in the best condition (including a hole where the former overflow pipe for the water tank sat), but I plan to get someone in next spring / summer to have a look at tidying them up, so will get him to check then. In terms of foil taping the...

Insulation board for sloped ceiling (skeiling)

Thanks for your reply. Would I stick anything down to the top of the wall to fill the tiny gap or is pushing it down as flat as possible sufficient? It’s a “cold loft,” so air can still get around from the loft, as I’m only using 50mm insulation board (rafters are 100mm).

Insulation board for sloped ceiling (skeiling)

Hi all My house has sloped ceilings (skeilings) toward the edges of the rooms with exposed rafter feet on the outside. The ceiling meets the wall at roughly 45 degrees for about the first 75 cm, before levelling off. Having taken the plasterboard off I see that there is no insulation...

    Insulated plasterboard on outside corner

I’m about to install some insulated plasterboard on an outside corner (around a redundant chimney breast). After it’s done I’ll be getting a professional plasterer in to tidy up and skim the rest of the room so it all looks the same. Just wondering, with the insulation being thick, what’s the...

    Dirty frame sealant

Hi all Still a bit of a beginner here so hope you can help me. After having painted my windowsills with a gloss (uPVC Windows with a wooden internal windowsill) I have then gone around the frame with an acrylic internal frame sealant. This was about a year ago now. In the last few months...

Who is responsible for chimney flashing?

Hi, I understand that but that isn’t my question. I was wondering if, because the chimney stack sits on the party wall, is there any possibility that I would have to potentially contribute toward the costs of repairing my neighbour’s chimney, bearing in mind that I also have my own chimney to...

Who is responsible for chimney flashing?

Hi all, Just been up into my loft and noticed rain water trickling down the wall on the inside at the point where the chimney stack of my neighbour comes in to his house on our adjoining wall. I live in an end of terrace property (4 houses). Unlike many terraces the houses are not symmetrical...

    Loft insulation with sloped ceilings

Am looking to improve my loft insulation following recent removal of a water tank. There is already a bottom layer of insulation installed by the previous owners, in between the joists only. Not quite sure how to describe it, but the roof fits lower than the side walls and we have exposed...

    Best Masonry Paint for Render

Hi all My house has a thick concrete render which exists from new. It's starting to look a bit shabby now and most of my neighbours have had their house painted white (mine is currently magnolia) so was thinking of repainting. Can anyone recommend what company is best? I've heard conflicting...

    First floor concrete hearth repair

Hi all First floor bedroom previously had a fireplace (removed a long time ago) and the concrete hearth was broadly level with the floor and was previously carpeted over. I’ve noticed that a part of it was cracked and not lying totally flush with the surrounding floor so I’ve removed the...

    Thermostatic Shower minimum temperature

Have recently had a Triton Pirlo Thermostatic Bar Mixer installed to replace an electric shower. In the instructions (http://www.tritonshowers.co.uk/media/custom/upload/File-1532357017.pdf) it says that the Minimum hot water temperature is 55 degrees. I’d previously had my Combi boiler set...

    Damp chimney breast, survey?

Can’t answer that I’m afraid. By wide open, there’s a gap of about 1cm before the roofline starts. I wouldn’t say it’s wasted, the stack was very ugly and unsightly and would have required sealing if I’d have retained it. You could hear rainwater coming in when it rained!

    Damp chimney breast, survey?

Thank you. I managed to find a proper (i.e. non-Property Care Association) surveyor this week who visited and suggested that it may be a ventilation problem and suggested I install a vent in the bedroom to the chimney breast and an air-brick on the external wall going into the chimney breast...

    Damp chimney breast, survey?

Hi, thanks for the reply. I was wondering if it was perhaps an issue in the wall, when I look up the chimney from the ground floor I can see water droplets on the (inside of the outside) wall. They are tiny and look sort of dirty if that makes any sense. The chimney breast opens into the loft...

    Damp chimney breast, survey?

It never fully dries out, even in the summer when we had three weeks of no rain, it was still appearing as if it was still damp when it was cold. There may be water coming in, but it is not coming in through the roof, and it is that what I want to have checked out.

    Damp chimney breast, survey?

Hi all, not sure if this is the right forum or not, hopefully a Moderator could move if not. In September last year prior to purchasing our property we had a Homebuyers report completed which mentioned that there was some penetrating dampness on the chimney breast caused by various issues...

    Steel bar above fireplace opening

Hi, I had a roofer come up and completely take out the flue liner from the top. He has also knocked down the chimney (at my request - it was letting in a lot of rainwater in addition to being unsightly). It was my intention to plasterboard out the bottom maybe later this year once I can see...
