    Replace conservatory over manhole

Unfortunately digging over 2m down and removing 2 massive concrete rings that make the current manhole by hand is above what I can do.

    Replace conservatory over manhole

Hi all a few years ago we had plans drawn up for a new 3m x 3m rear extension to replace an existing conservatory. We got planning permission and a build over agreement all agreed but unfortunately the price of just the groundworks to relocate the drain/ manhole that is currently in the...

Bespoke painted DIY kitchens and alternatives?

We've got the Clayton painted kitchen (white)from them and we've had it fitted for just shy of 2 years and it still looks as good now as it did when fitted. My fitter had never actually fitted one of there's but was very impressed with the quality of the kitchen compared to the other brands he...

    Insulating pitched roof into eaves

I had exactly the same problem a couple of years ago in all of my upstairs rooms. I ended up buying some 50mm insulation board from inter line and cutting it to the correct size and sliding it down into void. I did make sure I left a gap between board and roof membrane for air flow. I've only...

    Damp/cold patch in living room

Hi all, over the past few weeks we've noticed what appears to be large damp looking patch appearing in the middle of the wall in our living room. After having a look today the area highlighted is very cold to touch compared to the surrounding area and also the paint as you can see can easily be...

    Alpha CD24C Red light on?

I had something similar happen to mine only last month and it turned out to be the low pressure sensor was blocked up. Ordered a new one from alpha for about £35 and had it fitted. Old one actually snapped off when they tried to remove it as the thread is plastic so made sure the new one was a...

Hive thermostat to alpha cd35c boiler

Brilliant many thanks for that, never even give that a thought. Does it make a difference that its not an internal time clock but it's the alpha wireless receiver? If not is it OK to use spade connectors then tape over or better to solder and heat shrink? Will some 0.75m 4 core cable from...

Hive thermostat to alpha cd35c boiler

Hi all I'm after some advice. My current alpha boiler has a wireless thermostat connected nothing fancy just one where you can set the on off time for heating etc etc. This has now broken due to me dropping it and the inlaws have give me a hive thermostat that they never had fitted to there...

    Leaking roof 3 yrs on

The leak is showing up where the old flue used to exit the roof so there is a round hole in the felt that allows to exit into loft. I'm actually having the flue replaced and redirected back up to exit in the old location. But surely its better to stop the water getting in under tiles in the 1st...

    Leaking roof 3 yrs on

Hope someone can help we've had a leak for probably the last 3 years and still haven't found out where it's coming from. It doesn't leak all the time only under very heavy rain and wind, even then its only a drip. However its driving me mad. I've attached a picture and stuck a bit of cable under...

Does anybody have any suggestions on how to obtain a good initial trade discount with Howdens?

I would also 2nd diy kitchens. The fitter who I've just had fit mine does lot's of howdens kitchens per year and yet they still couldn't get anywhere near the price I got from diy. He was also surprised that the quality of the cupboards and especially the doors was better quality than howdens. I...

    Leaking flue in loft

We've not decided anything 100% with regards to its placement as awaiting quote. Venting out the roof will require full scaffolding as it will need to span over a rear conservatory so it may not be all that cost affective and I don't really want the flue set up as it currently is

    Leaking flue in loft

OK just a quick update had someone round to check and there is a split in the inner flue and that's what is causing the problem. He did say he could replace the flue but at 8.5 meters long and the fact the boiler is 14 yrs old I don't think it's really worth the cost. So I've decided to have a...

    Leaking flue in loft

Yep just looked absolutely nothing on either apart from vents to be fitted in door like I said on earlier post Would that indicate that it was satisfactory and I've somehow disturbed it whilst moving stuff around in the loft? Not that it really matters as I will be calling someone in to get...

    Leaking flue in loft

If I was to guess I would say 4". Stupid thing is when we bought the house we had a leak above where the flue is now and it turned out they had removed the old flue and left the lead flashing where it used to exit thru roof!!! I guess the so called fitter was scared of heights so they went the...
