Non thermostatic shower for hard water area

We have very hard water and my Aqualisa Midas Plus shower gets scaled up and the valves are stiff to turn. I have to replace the temperature cartridge every couple of years. The shower runs off a Vaillant Combi Boiler. Would a simpler non thermostatic mixer shower without a temperature...

Which garden hose should I buy ?

I need a 20 to 30 metre hose BUT am fed up with the hoselock hoses I have bought in the past which seem so stiff and often the connectors seem to leak ! Would Gardena and Karcher hoses and connectors be any better ?

    Combi boiler and unvented cylinder

I can live without hot water no problem but it is the others in the house who can't. I lived in a flat and when the hot water failed, I put 4 saucepans on the stove and carried them in to the bath for each person to wash so they coulld all get a wash before work. That was easy for me as I was...

    Combi boiler and unvented cylinder

I may well have misunderstood what the heating engineer said but will speak to him next week and will let you know. This is what I thought he said: Leave the combi boiler just as it is now to supply heat to the radiators and hot water to the taps, bath and shower. Instal a diverter on the...

    Combi boiler and unvented cylinder

When you say do you mean the Heating Engineer who suggested this is talking rubbish ?

    Combi boiler and unvented cylinder

I want an unvented hot water cylinder with immersion heater in case my Vaillant Eco Tec 831 plus combi boiler fails and we can at least have hot water until it gets fixed. I recently had the Vaillant serviced by a Heating Engineer who said there is no need to turn the Vaillant into a...

Where to put a new System Boiler & Hot Water tank

My soon to be replaced Combi Boiler is in the loft which is not easy to get to for an engineer to service it or for me to climb up to find out why it has failed. I will be replacing it with a system boiler and unvented hot water tank. Any thoughts on the ideas I have come up with: SYSTEM...

I wish electricity was cheaper than gas ... no don't laugh !

No I haven't got rid of the gas. My Vaillant has struggled on with occasional F22s .... despite Vaillant engineers many trips over the last few years and replacing many parts. The F22s are mostly detected once I am in the shower and notice that the hot water isn't hot but freezing cold. Which...

I wish electricity was cheaper than gas ... no don't laugh !

Last year I asked what people thought about getting rid of my gas boiler and heating the house with oil filled radiators and using an immersion heaters. Everyone laughed and I understand why, My reason for wanting heating by electric instead of gas is that heaters and immersion heaters are...

Bathroom fan hardly reduces the high humidity

Ericmark, yes the door is left open and the wall next to the bath/shower is a tiled north facing wall so that probably doesn't help. I bought a dehumidifier which I leave just outside the bathroom (with the door open) and it draws the moisture out quite well.

Bathroom fan hardly reduces the high humidity

Thanks John. I half expected it is too low power. It was chosen by a bathroom installer who did not tell me anything about the fan, mistakenly I accepted his choice without checking !

Bathroom fan hardly reduces the high humidity

I have an AIRFLOW ICON 15 fan in the ceiling of our bathroom. With 1.5 meters of flexible ducting in the loft to an outside wall. The bathroom is 203cm by 166cm and height 203cm. The fan clears the steam very quickly but takes ages to reduce the humidity. Before using the shower my Hygrometer...

How many Kwh to heat by electricity only ?

I have a well insulated 3 bedroom semi-detached house with a 13 year old 24kwh gas combi boiler and 9 radiators. In the winter I keep the temperature at 20 and throughout the year I use 14,000kwh of gas. My energy supplier said if the house were heated only using electricity that an estimate...

Solar Panels and Unvented Cylinder anyone ?

No I don't think that. I want them for water heating only which I expect would be fine for the summer and according to others, would assist in the winter and if they didn't then the boiler or the immersion would kick in and keep the unvented cylinder water hot.

Solar Panels and Unvented Cylinder anyone ?

Thanks Gasguru and I think you are right as there was no written evidence of maintenance when we moved in, so had it serviced and the graphite seal replaced. We have a 3 bed semi, well insulated, just the two of us, only shower and like a winter temperature of 20.5c .... if I decide to stay...

Solar Panels and Unvented Cylinder anyone ?

Thank you StephenStephen, lostinthelight and Gasguru for your really useful information. We have decided to go for the solar route and unvented cyclinder but it may be a while yet before I can make it happen. In the meantime I will carry on with my research in to panels, unvented cylinders and...
