I'm was using a high impedance multi meter (hence the volts) and of course a momentary N to E short will modify other connected ring ctt flow & hence trip the RCD. I was adding a spur to a ring. I just wanted to have an explanation for the symptoms. Thanks

Can disconnectted ring circuits pick up mains at a high enough level so that you can measure say 10V ac between the disconnected live and N. Also can momentarly connecting the disconected live to N or earth cause an RCDs to trip? Thanks

Thanks, I could have wired a cable from the isolator to a 2nd outlet (next to the hob) & plastered over the cable. The end result just reduces the length of cable from the outlet to the hob - It doesnt affect the dist of isolator to the hob.

My existing Hob & oven are connected via 2 flying 4 mm cables to a cooker connection outlet. I wish to move the hob (both hob & ovens new positions are within 2 m of isolator switch). The question is - what a reasonable max length for the flying leads. I want to be able to fix one of them on to...

Supply is TNS, The MCB & RCD are both in a Proteus CU. I measured the voltage directly across the Earth & live leads at the cooker isolator.

My cooker is wired through MCB the a RCB. When both are off but other circuits are on (ie the main switch is on) I get 8v ac between live and earth. Is this normal? (the RCD seeams to work as expecteds). It only goes to zero only when the mains is swithched off. My Ac meter is good. My only...
